Assessment levels are based on the nationality of the visa applicant and the visa subclass they are applying for. Further information on student visa assessment levels is available at www.immi.gov.au/students/student-visa-assessment-levels.htm For Assessment Level 1, the standard processing time is 14 days; For Assessment Level 2, the standard processing time is 21 days; and For Assessment Level 3, the standard processing time is 90 days. However, the actual processing time for an individual application can be shorter or longer than this, depending on the specific circumstances of the case. Please note that if all required documents are not provided at the time of lodgement, this can extend the processing time of your application. PAYMENT OF STUDENT VISA APPLICATION CHARGE Should you decide to lodge an application for a student visa, the visa application charge is the equivalent of 535 Australian dollars in Euros (415 EUR), as at 1 January 2012. The Australian Embassy in Belgrade can only accept payments in Euros. Alternatively, payment may be made in Australian Dollars at Department of Immigration and Citizenship offices in Australia by friends or family members of clients applying in Belgrade. The original receipt must then be sent to the Australian Embassy in Belgrade with the application. Clients in Serbia Payment can only be made in cash (Euros only) at the Australian Embassy in Belgrade. Clients in Albania and Bulgaria Bank transfer at any bank. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU PROVIDE ALL OF THE DOCUMENTS LISTED BELOW WHEN YOU LODGE YOUR STUDENT VISA APPLICATION. IF YOU DO NOT PROVIDE ALL OF THE DOCUMENTS, YOUR APPLICATION MAY BE REFUSED IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT THAT ALL DOCUMENTS ARE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ENGLISH TRANSLATION Form 157A please ensure all questions are answered and the form is signed and dated; Payment of the visa application charge; 4 passport size photographs; Confirmation of Enrolment advice form (from an approved educational institution in Australia); Evidence of sufficient funds to support your intended stay in Australia (bank account statements, savings book etc). You need to be able to show that you own or can legally spend these funds, so statements should be itemised and historical, held for at last three months prior to lodgement; Calculating the total costs of education and stay: Tuition costs will vary between providers Assume living costs of AU$18,000 per annum for applicants who have no family unit members. Costs could be expected to increase by at least 35% if the student has a spouse; a further 20% (plus AUD$8,000 p/a cost of schooling) if the student has at least one child; a further 15% for each additional child (plus AUD$8,000 p/a cost of schooling). Above applies to all members of the family unit who must be declared, irrespective of whether they will accompany the primary applicant Individual return travel costs to/from Australia will vary depending on geographic location of applicant (s). All costs are calculated on a pro rata basis. For current students, a certificate from your institution giving you leave from your studies; If you are currently employed, a letter of leave from your employer confirming your current position, length of employment and the dates of leave granted to you. You should also provide evidence from the social security department stating who has been paying the social security payments for you in the last three months; School graduation certificate, academic records; A penal check may be required and you will be advised by your case officer accordingly; If you are under 18, both parents or legal guardians consent for your stay in Australia or evidence of custody arrangements if only one parent has provided consent. If you will not be living with a parent, adult guardian, or adult nominated by your parent/guardian, you must provide confirmation from your education provider that appropriate arrangements have been made for your accommodation, support and welfare during your stay in Australia; If the course you are attending is not an English language course, evidence of English language proficiency (eg: IELTS test score);certified copies of birth certificates for you, your spouse and your children (if applicable), and evidence of enrolment of school age children in Australian schools, if you intend for them to live with you for more than 3 months; A completed Visa Questionnaire (attached below); and If your inviter, migration agent, family member in Australia or in your own country, or any third person is seeking information about your application, we must have written consent from you to with that person.
Medical examinations are a mandatory requirement for this visa subclass. You will be advised how and where the medical examinations are to be done once your application has been assessed. Please note that in addition to the documents above, there may be additional documentary requirements depending on your Student Visa Assessment Level and the specific visa subclass you are applying for. Australian Government Department of Immigration and Citizenship Addendum to Form 157A Application for a student visa (Design date 11/11) From 5 November 2011 the following change to Form 157A will come into effect to reflect that the department will no longer be conducting Pre-Visa Assessments (PVA) of Student visa applications. Page 11 Question 33 Delete the following paragraph: Give details of your intended courses of study in Australia. You must provide evidence of enrolment. Unless you are seeking to study in Australia as a secondary school exchange student or as a student sponsored by AusAID or the Australian Department of Defence, you must attach: if applying in Australia, or outside Australia as an Assessment Level 1 or 2 student, the electronic confirmation of enrolment certificate from your education provider. If you propose to study more than one course you must provide either an electronic confirmation of enrolment certificate, or an original offer of a place in a course letter from your education provider for each additional course; or if applying outside Australia as an Assessment Level 3 or4 student, the original offer of a place in a course letter from your education provider. If you are assessed as a genuine student, the Australian Government office will provide you with a letter of Genuineness. Only at this stage should you pay any tuition fees and obtain an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment. If you are seeking to study as an exchange student, you must attach to this application the Acceptance Advice Secondary Exchange Student (AASES) form as evidence of enrolment.
