University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Ministry Scholarship Information The Baptist General Convention of Texas, in cooperation with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor provides tuition assistance to Baptist students who are preparing for careers in ministry. The Ministry Scholarship is in the amount of $50 per semester hour for Freshmen and Sophomores and $75 per semester hour for Juniors and Seniors. To be eligible a student must be: 1. An active member of a Baptist church. 2. Planning to pursue vocational Christian ministry, as evidenced by a personal testimony. 3. Certified for ministry by a Baptist church, either by license, ordination, or statement of certification. The following completed documents are required to make an application for the Ministry Scholarship: 1. Ministry Scholarship application. 2. Church Certification form. 3. Letter of recommendation and support from the pastor of the certifying Baptist church. 4. Applicant's written testimony of call and commitment to ministry. These documents are to be on file prior to the beginning of the semester for which the scholarship application is being made. Send all documents to: Dr. Leroy Kemp Director of In-Service Guidance 900 College St, UMHB Box 8422 Belton, TX 76513-2599 Qualifying students who accept this Ministry Scholarship assistance commit to taking at least a Minor in Christian Studies to include the following courses: CSMN 1320: Introduction to Christian Ministry (This course should be taken the first or second semester after you are approved for the scholarship. It requires a $25 fee in addition to the regular tuition). CSCH 3310: History of Baptists CSMN 4316: Supervised Ministry Practicum Scholarship recipients are also required to attend monthly meetings (first Friday of each month) of Crusaders for Christ, a campus organization of Ministerial students for the purpose of fellowship, inspiration, and enrichment.

MINISTRY SCHOLARSHIP RENEWAL Eligibility for the Ministry Scholarship must be reviewed and reaffirmed annually. The student will complete a renewal application form prior to May 1 each year. The following renewal requirements must be met by the student: 1. Demonstrate a life-style of commitment to the principles of the Christian life, as percived by Texas Baptists. 2. Furnish written evidence from the pastor of a local church cooperating with the Baptist General Convention of Texas of the student s attendance at, support for, and commitment to the local church. 3. Provide written reaffirmation of a sense of call to ministry and a desire to continue to receive the Ministry Scholarship. 4. Make satisfactory progress toward a degree according to UMHB standards. 5. Be in compliance with any additional requirements or policies of UMHB and the Baptist General Convention of Texas. FIRST-YEAR CERTIFICATION FORM Ministerial Financial Assistance for Students Preparing for a Church-Related Vocation Baptist General Convention of Texas Dear Student and Church Leader: In recognition of the special call of God felt by those who minister, churches affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas (BGCT) provide financial assistance to Baptist* students who are preparing for church-related vocational ministry at a Texas Baptist university. Four participants are involved in the Ministerial Financial Assistance (MFA) program (1) the student who, responding to God s call to a vocation in church-related ministry, is set aside by (2) a local Baptist church that pools resources with other cooperating Baptist churches and entrusts these resources to (3) the BGCT and its (4) partner universities. Each applicant for the MFA program must show evidence of a divine call to church-related vocational ministry, must demonstrate a life-style of commitment to the principles of Christian life, and must be an active member of a Baptist* church. The student is required to provide certification from his or her church in one of the following forms: a certificate of ordination to the gospel ministry, or a certificate of license to the gospel ministry, or a statement of certification recognizing a call to church-related vocational ministry (such as pastor, church staff, missionary, or chaplain). The student is also required to provide a letter of recommendation from his or her pastor (or other church approved leader if student is the pastor). In certifying a student, the church joins the Baptist General Convention of Texas and related universities in being faithful stewards of mission funds entrusted to them by Texas Baptist churches to provide tuition assistance for students.
