And with our experienced team of rainwater harvesting professionals providing complete customer care and support, peace of mind comes as standard. What is rainwater harvesting? Rainwater harvesting works by taking the rain from roofs and filtering out leaves and debris, before storing the water underground in the main storage tank. The water is then pumped into the property to be used for non-drinking applications such as flushing toilets, washing machines and garden watering. www.alumascrainwater.co.uk/rainwater-harvesting/ 3
Why install Monsoon? It s easy and simple With ever increasing demand for mains water it is highly likely that there will come a point where it will no longer meet the needs of our growing population. Monsoon is easy to install, simple to maintain and can reduce domestic water consumption by up to 50 per cent. The Monsoon system has been developed by Stormsaver to provide the homeowner with a simple, yet effective automatic supply of harvested rainwater. During periods of heavy usage, if the tank should run empty, the system automatically switches to the mains water supply. Why do we need to harvest rainwater? A precious resource Planning Mains water is an increasingly precious resource due to increases in demand from our ever growing population. Changes in rainfall patterns in the UK have seen both drought conditions and flooding. Rainwater harvesting can provide around 50 per cent of a family s water needs. This not only saves water, but saves money and reduces our impact on the environment. With ever increasing demand for mains water it is highly likely that there will come a point where it will no longer meet the needs of our growing population. This almost inevitable situation will have an environmental and financial impact on the infrastructure used by the water companies, which will be passed on to their customers. This is why more and more people are capturing their own rainwater to make sure they have enough for their needs at a price they can afford and at the same time minimise their impact on the environment. When combined with other sustainable technologies, rainwater harvesting systems can help secure planning permission and in some areas of the UK where the mains water simply cannot support increased demand - it could be a necessity. Harvesting rainwater has become a serious consideration for all new build or refurbishment projects. Architects and builders understand the importance of specifying rainwater harvesting systems to make houses more sustainable and to reduce the cost of running a home. This means energy consumption and running costs of the Monsoon system are 90 per cent lower than traditional pumping systems. The Monsoon system costs less to operate, less to maintain and emits lower associated CO 2. The control system containing the efficient 90 Watt pump can be connected to solar, wind or mains power supply without the need for any complicated electrical controls. House builders With buyers purchasing decisions based on energy efficiency and Home Information Pack (HIP) ratings, it is more important than ever for builders to ensure their properties have the lowest possible energy rating. By installing a Monsoon system, builders should see their capital investment adding value to the property and can expect their developments to be water efficient without increasing energy usage. It comprises a single piece storage tank typically installed below ground level. The tank has a fall in height across the inlet and overflow of only 50mm making it simple to install into either new or existing drainage. An integrated filter prevents large leaves and debris from entering the storage tank. Filtered clean rainwater entering the tank is slowed down by an inlet calmer, which minimises disturbance to the sediment layer on the base of the tank. When the tank overflows excess rainwater in the tank and debris from the filter pass through a rodent guard and backflow valve en route to the storm drain or soakaway. Particles floating within the tank, such as dust and pollen, are also skimmed from the surface of the tank during overflow conditions. Graph showing pressure settings: The unit is pre-set to maximum pressure (3.5 bar) and can be adjusted on site to suit local pressure requirements. During periods of low rainfall, a sensor in the storage tank activates the integrated motorised valve within the Monsoon system control unit, switching from rainwater to mains water. Mains water is supplied to the Monsoon control unit via an automatic refill unit compliant with the Water Supply (Fittings) Regulations 1999. The system is compliant with BS 8515 2009.
