Come on board! It will be a new experience for you: Speed, Comfort and Easy Handling, three elements that until fairly recently were incompatible. Fast yachts were plain and uncomfortable and easy handling meant extra weight and loss of speed. But times are changing. Today, for the first time, speed, comfort and easy handling have come together - on board the Hanse 400. We at Hanse call it the cross-over design. Together with judel/ vrolijk & co we have developed the theme with the designers who set the standard world-wide. And at Hanse our professional boat builders and cup-winning sailors turn these yardsticks into reality. Owners who take delivery of a Hanse 400 can look forward to a unique life-style.

Enjoy life on board! The Hanse 400 turns the sailing world on its head. The owner s cabin is cleverly placed in the bow. In the Mediterranean this has long been the favourite concept, making for a quieter time when moored up and giving better headroom and more ventilation. But we went even further: We can transform the classic triangular berth forecabin into a diagonal sleeping area with a very special perspective - sitting up in bed and watching a flat screen entertainment centre which easily disappears into a locker when not in use. Access to the engine room is easy without demounting the companionway steps. You move it easily and elegantly upwards, supported by gas-pressure struts. 400
Stay cool! We can solve your design frustrations by letting you choose from an endless number of layout variations. One or two stern cabins? Diagonal or traditional forecabin? Chart table, yes or no? We thought too about the colours of the wood - mahogany or cherry? And which upholstery fabric? So now it s up to you to choose. We reckon to have about 80 variations that we can offer you. You should decide because you are the decision maker in real life as well. You can put all your concerns away to rest once you have made your choice. Total satisfaction awaits you: Sailing a Hanse 400 is like a voyage on cloud nine.

Being close! 1 The faster a yacht is to be, the greater the effort the builder has to put in. Tapered mast-heads make less effort for you in trimming. 1 2 2 Instruments have to be easily readable. On the Hanse 400 the helmsman and the crew have an easy job of it. 3 The bow assembly also takes a gennaker pole. The furler is part of the standard equipment. 4 The console amidships in the cockpit carries the instruments and can support a cockpit table. 3 4 5 The leather-covered steering wheel acts on a solid connecting rod. It moves a streamlined rudder to give precise control. 6 Next to the furler there is a useful anchor roller. The divided bow pulpit allows easy access onto the deck. 5 6 400

An easy choice Only a light but strong construction gives the speed we all desire. The Hanse 400e is a tangible example of this wisdom. But we can make this fast yacht even faster if you decide on the optional epoxy layup. We know this material well as we have gained years of experience with high-tech yachts. You will save about ten per cent weight compared with traditional composite yachts. So let the others slog away on the race course while you sail past them. Epoxy has yet another advantage. You can forget the dangers of osmosis and no special primers are needed to protect the bottom. And apart from the benefit to the environment, you benefit directly from not having to live with the evaporations of the usual composite materials. No wonder it is seen as the material of the future. 400
