Accessing the PRACE RI Access Model Proposals are evaluated in a single European peer review process governed by the PRACE Scientific Steering Committee. Two types of resource allocations for Tier- 0 Project access large- scale, computationally intensive projects Preparatory access - Test / evaluation access, code scaling and optimization DECI (Distributed European Computing Initiative) Access to national Tier- 1 systems Support by experts from Tier- 1 centres
Preparatory access PRACE Preparatory access is managed through rolling call, opened all year round. There are no closing dates but technical evaluations are organized every 3 months at defined cut- off dates Types of preparatory access Type A: Code scalability tests (max 2 months) Applicants may use this preparatory access to obtain scalability plots of the performance of the code on a certain HPC system; this allows the applicant to obtain use of up- to- date information when applying to PRACE Project access type of calls. Type B. Code development and optimisation (max 6 months) Applicants may use preparatory access to undertake adaptations to the application code. Applicants will need to describe the proposed development plan in detail, including the human resources (and expertise) available to implement the project. Type C. Code development and optimisation with the support of PRACE experts (max 6 months) Applicants use this type of access for the same purposes as type B. In addition, under preparatory access type C, the applicants may require the support of PRACE experts to improve the application code. Administrative Validation: 2 working days after the cut- off date Allocation Decision: approx. 30 calendar days after the cut- off date Access Start Date: Access is provided starting approx. 45 calendar days after the cut- off date. Next cut- off date 1 st December 2015 (23rd cut- off) HLRS Hornet (XC40)
Project access PRACE will publish its twice- yearly Calls for Proposals according to a fixed rhythm: Call opens in February - > Access is provided starting September of the same year. Call opens in September - > Access is provided starting March of the next year. The PRACE peer review consists of two phases of assessment: technical and scientific. Technical assessment The need to use a PRACE resource Software availability on the requested resource Feasibility of the requested resource Scientific assessment Scientific excellence Novelty and transformative qualities Relevance to the call Methodology Dissemination Management Currently no call open till PRACE2.0!
DECI (Tier-1) access DECI (Distributed European Computing Initiative) is an European single- project HPC access scheme for Tier- 1 systems and services.
