CMS SPECIALTY CODES/HEALTHCARE PROVIDER TAXONOMY CROSSWALK This document walks the CMS Medicare specialty codes to the taxonomy codes currently maintained by the Washington Publishing Company as mandated by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996. Although this crosswalk is geared more for Medicare contractor use, this could assist current Medicare providers and suppliers in determining their taxonomy if they are required to use it on a claim form.
