Funktional Technologies Model: Chocolate Box November 2013 The Funktional Technologies Chocolate Box is a 2U analog & digital professional audio device. It incorporates two Cadac K type analog input modules. The modules are in their complete original form. Microphone preamp, equalizer, auxes, PFL everything we loved is included!! Cadac has a 45 year history in professional audio. We ve selected these modules since they have a small form factor and have the specifications and warmth that is lost in most modern day analog and digital systems. The Chocolate Box has been designed to accept these two Cadac modules but doesn t stop there. We have designed from scratch a fully insertable analog- to- digital & digital- to- analog converters with sample rates to 192Khz. AES, SPDIF, & optical connections included. The A/D can also be used independently from the CADAC modules USB interface will be recognized by most any computer recording software, i.e. Protools version 9 and later. For example, connect your Neumann U47 or Shure SM57, get that classic Cadac mic preamplifier & equalizer sound, and record to your computer. Chocolate Box Connections Controls Operation See Pictorials for more info CADAC----------------------------------------------------------------------- Input Gain +10 - +60 DB gain Direct Output Pre (pre selects Pre/Post EQ) via XLR connector -20db - input pad reduces input by 20 db, to be used for Line-in device Ground Lift- Floats ground on XLR input DI - Direct Input ¼ connector for Guitar, Bass etc. This is a ultra high quality non CADAC designed DI (switch formerly known as the oscillator) 48V- Phantom Power for condenser microphones & DI s DA Digital to Analog Input. Selects input from the DtoA inputs AES/SPDIF/Optical. This disables the Main A & B inputs when selected O Polarity Reverse input Output Groups - Output Select to Main A or B XLR Main outputs and C & D Analog to digital inputs. NOTE: When using digital C & D also assign A & B to use access the PPM Meter. Pan Fades / Pans between A,B Main out and C,D Analog to Digital A/D outputs Auxiliary Outputs - 3 are available A,B,C following the corresponding XLR outputs. ON sends to the output. PRE routes pre or post the equalizer. Note: There is no auxiliary master in this unit. Equalizer Is a 3 band parametric style w/ Frequency, Gain, Q Factor & High Pass filter. Chocolate Box---------------------------------------------------------------- A & B Level / VCA These control the Main A & B transformer output. VCA controlled adjustments in place of the faders. VCA off Bypasses the A/B level controls and audio from modules go directly to the Main A & B transformer outs. VCA on level control attenuates the A & B Main outs. Fully clockwise is the same level whether the VCA is on or off. Headphone Volume adjusts audio level to headphones from A & B group output Headphone Output- ¼ TRS Stereo connector will work with all low impedance headphones Input Meter- Original CADAC PPM Meter ballistics. 0db = +4dbu assigned via A&B group outputs Digital Status & Selection LED indicator WC OK Shows External Word Clock is present 44.1-192Khz DA- Digital to analog is connected via AES, SPDIF, Optical. This is a proprietary PSU do not attempt to connect to any other power source. The is no power switch designed for 24/7 operation. USB- Universal Serial Bus 2..on every computer. USB 44.1/48Khz output auto connecting in MAC or WIN OS no driver installs needed. Use with Protools (or later) Or most other recording programs. NOTE: this is output only AUX 1,2,3- Auxiliary 1,2,3 Outputs- XLRM Electronically balanced output +4dbu Main A & B Output XLRM Transformer balanced 50ohm low Z output. Direct Out A & B XLRM Electronically balanced output. Note: If you desire the mic pre only use this output. The Eq can be added by unselecting PRE on module LOOP IN / OUT Insert C out / D out Electronically balanced outputs are always active from C&D Output Group Connected directly to C in / D in which is the input to the Analog to Digital converter. The C Loop / D Loop switches when engaged disconnects the C&D out and in. This allows an external analog device i.e. Vintage Tube compressor to be inserted between CADAC s modules and the AtoD pretty cool huh!
