PACK CONTENTS This pack provides you with an overview of the SRD, its purpose and more information about the people who will be involved during the day. An overview of the event. Information on who you will meet on the day and the different exercises in which you will participate. Travel information and directions. Please read through this pack carefully to ensure you complete all the necessary paperwork before attending the SRD. SHELL CAREERS A career with Shell is not your average day job it is your chance to join a company that tackles real world problems, such as how we will meet the world s growing energy demands. Energy is vital to our daily lives. It helps us produce food, fuel transport and power communication channels across the world. Over the coming decades, more people will gain access to energy and enjoy higher standards of living. But these developments could place greater pressure on our world s resources, such as oil and gas reserves, fresh water and food. At the same time, climate change remains a serious concern. At Shell, we use human ingenuity, innovation and technology to unlock the energy our customers need to power their lives in the years ahead, while aiming to limit our impact on the environment. ABOUT THE SHELL RECRUITMENT DAY Congratulations on being invited to join a Shell Recruitment Day (SRD) and thank you for taking the time to find out more about what Shell can offer you. As one of the routes into Shell, our Recruitment Days give us a chance to see you in action, assessing you in a variety of different exercises and assessing how well you demonstrate the skills and attributes we re looking for. The day gives you the opportunity to show us your potential and will help you decide if Shell is the right company for you. An overview: The business language is English during the Shell Recruitment Day. All the exercises are fictitious but based on real issues / contexts which Shell faces. You will need to read all of the instructions carefully. You should base your answers only on the information provided as we are not testing your knowledge. For many exercises there are no right or wrong answers. Please wear your provided name badge all day. You will be provided with verbal feedback after the decision has been communicated we will highlight some strengths and areas for development we have identified. (where applicable) PRE-SHELL RECRUITMENT DAY INTERACTIVE EVENT Prior to the Shell Recruitment Day you ll attend a non-assessed informal event where you ll receive further insight into Shell s business operations. This event has been organised for us to get to know each other better. It is also an opportunity for you to understand more about Shell and meet the other candidates, in preparation for the SRD on the following day. Please note that during this time you will not be assessed. Following the event there will be a briefing session about the next day. In addition, you will have the opportunity to attend a meal hosted by some of our Shell graduates, 2

where they will be happy to answer any questions you might have. The dinner will take place in the Park Plaza Victoria Hotel in Amsterdam at 18.00. The dinner hosts will pick you up from the Hotel reception. Please see Appendix 4 for the address of the Hotel. Your attendance at this event is compulsory. THE SHELL RECRUITMENT DAY During the SRD, you will participate in a range of activities based on realistic business scenarios. We will assess your capacity, achievement and relationship skills to determine whether you have the skills and competencies to be successful within Shell. The activities will include an online exercise, a written exercise, a group discussion, a selfreflection interview, a case study analysis, and a final interview. If you are successful at the SRD, we will review our available job openings and determine whether we will be able to make you a formal offer of employment. You will then be advised of our decision by a Recruiter. We look forward to meeting you and wish you every success in your journey with Shell. PREPARATION FOR THE SHELL RECRUITMENT DAY Useful Hints and Tips Please try to get a good night s sleep and relax. We are only assessing when we say we are. Have a go aim to do your best. Listen carefully to instructions ask questions if anything is unclear. Reflect on your performance after each exercise, learn and move on. Please don t talk about the exercises with others there may be more than one successful approach. Enjoy the experience the SRD gives you a range of opportunities to show us what you can do. Travel and Expenses We will reimburse you for the cost of any reasonable or predefined expenses as long as you can provide receipts. In some cases, Shell will make travel arrangements for you. Please see: Appendix 1 for information on making your travel arrangements; Appendix 2 for information on the reimbursement of expenses; and Appendix 3 for information on the SRD venue. Accommodation Your hotel accommodation will already have been booked by Shell, covering the cost of your room and breakfast only. All other charges such as telephone calls will be charged to your own account, which you will need to settle when checking out. In some circumstances, you may need to book your own accommodation and receive reimbursement for the cost from Shell. To check what arrangements you need to make for your accommodation, please see appendix 4. Dress code Smart/ business dress is appropriate for both the SRD pre-briefing and for the SRD. 3

Safety information At Shell we care about your safety and are committed to ensuring that Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) features as a key element of our recruitment and learning events. With this in mind, we have produced some safety advice to help you stay safe during your visit. Please be sure to read our safety guidance. Queries If you have any queries please contact your scheduling coordinator. Shell is an Equal Opportunity Employer If you require accommodation, any reasonable adjustments or special assistance for the Shell Recruitment Day, please contact your scheduling coordinator: BACKGROUND Why do we hold a Shell Recruitment Day? Attending a Shell Recruitment Day gives us a chance to see you in action, assessing how you perform a variety of different exercises, observing how well you demonstrate the key competencies we re seeking. It s a two-way process, because it s also your opportunity to find out about Shell and see if we are a good fit for your career aspirations and ambitions. What are we looking for? While your academic record was one of the reasons we invited you to attend an SRD, our experience has shown that excellent qualifications alone are rarely sufficient to be successful within a company as challenging, diverse and global as Shell. We ve identified the qualities that we believe are critical to high performance in Shell and we ll assess you against our Capacity, Achievement, Relationship (CAR) criteria: Capacity: You ll need to bring the intellectual, analytical and creative ability to identify issues, make judgments and propose solutions. Achievement: We expect plenty of enthusiasm, resilience and confidence but additionally, you ll be someone who can always get things done and learns quickly. Relationships: You should have the skills and ability to work effectively with others in a diverse team. Please note: You will need to speak conversational English to take part in the SRD, but your use of English is not one of the selection criteria. If you are not a native English speaker you will be given some additional time to prepare where appropriate, and are welcome to bring a dictionary. Who will be involved? Participants Usually, there are up to six candidates at each SRD. It is important to remember that you are being assessed as an individual. It is possible for everyone to be successful, so please treat the day as non-competitive. 4

Scheduling Coordinator The Scheduling Coordinator is responsible for sending you the invite and confirmation of the SRD. The scheduling coordinator will handle any queries or concerns that you may have prior to the SRD. Candidate Coordinator The Candidate Coordinator is responsible for the logistics of the SRD, ensuring it runs in a smooth and timely fashion. Assessors The Assessor team is made up of business or HR leaders who will assess you against our criteria and make the decisions who to hire on behalf of Shell. Assessors are often also the line managers for recruits initial assignments. The role of the Assessor is to help you demonstrate your CAR qualities. Usually there are six Assessors at each SRD. Facilitator The Facilitator will be your prime focal point during the SRD, they will facilitate the Pre-SRD interactive engagement and during the SRD will liaise with you, the candidate coordinator and assessors to ensure a successful day and answering any questions which you may have. A walk through the Shell Recruitment Day For the SRD itself, you may wish to bring along reading/study material in case of any waiting time in between exercises. The SRD is comprised of the following exercises: 1) Digital E-tray exercise with two tasks to complete: an online inbox exercise and a written task; 2) Group Exercise; 3) Self Reflection Interview; 4) Case Study analysis 5) Final interview based on your personal attributes and experiences. The exercises are based around the types of problems and challenges typically tackled by graduates within Shell. By using a variety of different exercises, we give you numerous opportunities to demonstrate your personal strengths, skills and abilities in relation to the criteria of Capacity, Achievement, and Relationships. No preparation is required for these exercises. However you may find it beneficial to complete the practise e-tray exercise as it will help you understand the interface and functionality on the day. We hope that you find the SRD a valuable, rewarding and ultimately enjoyable experience, and use it as an opportunity to find out if we fit your career aspirations and ambitions. Joining Shell means getting more out of your working life than you thought possible. We hope that you enjoy the Pre-SRD Interactive Engagement and SRD. We look forward to meeting you. 5
