IMPORTANT: Read these instructions carefully and be sure you understand them. There is a risk of serious personal injury if you do not follow the instructions included in this manual. Retain these instructions for future use. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Do not rely exclusively on the safety devices built into your machine. As a Hedge Trimmer user you are responsible for all cutting jobs to be free from accident or injury. 1. Before using the machine NEVER use this Hedge Trimmer if you are tired, ill or under the influence of drink or drugs. Be aware that using a Hedge Trimmer is physically demanding and should you be suffering from any condition that could be aggravated by this, you should consult a doctor before use. NEVER allow children or anyone unable to fully understand the directions given in this manual to use this Hedge Trimmer. DO NOT cut near overhead power cables or buildings. DO NOT work in adverse weather conditions, i.e. strong winds, rain or snow. DO NOT run the engine indoors. The exhaust contains gases that can kill. If it is subsequently found that the repair / adjustment is outside the terms of the Warranty, then HSS will call you direct and offer you a quotation. If you accept the quote, HSS will complete the work and call you direct when the work is completed. Tie back long hair and avoid wearing loose garments or jewellery as they could catch in moving parts. 3. Handling of fuel The engine of this Hedge Trimmer is designed to run on Petrol: Oil fuel mix. Due to the highly flammable nature of Petrol, never store cans of fuel or refill the fuel tank in any place where there is a boiler, stove, wood fire, electrical sparks, welding sparks, or any other source of heat or fire that might ignite the fuel. Do not smoke whilst operating the Hedge Trimmer or refilling its fuel tank. Always allow the engine to cool before refuelling. Always mix fuel and refill outdoors on clear ground. If any fuel spillage occurs during refuelling, use a dry rag to wipe up spills before turning the engine back on again. Change your clothes if you get fuel on yourself. After refuelling, screw the fuel cap back tightly on to the fuel tank and then carry the Hedge Trimmer to a spot 3m or more away from where it was refuelled before turning on the engine. C. Stopping Engine KNOW YOUR MACHINE Release the handle switch. Switch Ignition to O (STOP) position.(fig.2) OPERATION CAUTION: If this is the first time you have used a Petrol Hedge Trimmer, we recommend the following tips. This also helps you to get accustomed to your Hedge Trimmer. It is not necessary to force the blade, only light pressure is required while the engine is running at full speed. Always hold the machine firmly with both hands when the engine is running. Use a firm grip with thumb and fingers encircling the handles. Keep all parts of your body away from the machine when the engine is running. Make sure that the blade stops moving when the throttle control trigger is released. Keep the handles dry, clean and free of oil or fuel mixture. DO NOT touch the muffler, spark plug or other metallic parts of the engine whilst the engine is in operation, or immediately after stopping the engine. Doing so could result in serious burns. Use extreme caution when cutting small size brush and saplings because slender material may catch the blade and be whipped toward you or pull you off balance. 12 11 Always shut off the engine before setting the unit down. 13 DO NOT operate with one hand as this could result in serious injury. This machine is intended for use with two hands only. It is strongly recommended that you do not use the Hedge Trimmer whilst on a ladder or in a tree. When not using the unit, always fit the Blade cover and carry the saw with the muffler facing away from your body, and the covered blade facing the rear. DO NOT leave the unit running and unattended.
