Orkanger Spoolbase The Spoolbase is located in Orkanger some 65 km south west of Trondheim and is well placed to service the Norwegian Sea developments planned over the next decade. The Spoolbase is used for the fabrication of steel pipe for reeling onto the Installation vessel. The fabrication building is 220 m in length and is able to accept double jointed lengths of coated pipe onto the production line which has 8 welding stations, two mobile radiography bunkers and 6 field joint coating stations. The production pipe is pulled from the fabrication building along a set of production rollers until a 920 m stalk is completed after which the stalk is rolled over onto the 30 m wide stalk racks. The Spoolbase has permanently located facilities and ancillary storage racks for pipe up to 16" in diameter (~400 mm). The capacity of the racks based on 12" three layer coated pipe is 90 stalks each 920 m in length. This represents 82 km of pipe fully fabricated and ready to load out via the rollers located at the opposite end of the racks and in line with the tie-in building and specially constructed quay where the Installation vessels can berth, stern on, to accept the stalks of pipe.
