CLOUD TECH PROVIDER TRIPLES ENGAGEMENT IN BIOMETRIC SCREENINGS WITH JIFF Summary The cloud tech provider is a large employer with more than 1000 employees across two locations in the U.S. Implemented biometric screenings starting in 2014 After launching Jiff in 2015, increased engagement by 3x Background A well-known cloud tech provider implemented its first biometric screening program in January 2014 with lackluster results. Goals for Program Increase participation in biometrics screenings and bolster healthy behaviors Get employees engaged and aware of their key health indicators Ease appointment scheduling for company employees Use data to customize future programs Despite efforts to encourage participation among its employee base at its two largest locations, only a handful of employees completed biometric screenings. Email blasts prior to the program didn t drive employees to take part in the screening and neither did the program s incentives entry into a raffle for a treadmill. In short, the program didn t achieve its goal of motivating healthy behaviors, which in turn could have reduced overall health spending. The program also didn t advance the cloud tech provider s ancillary goal of data gathering the information collected during biometric screenings could have been used to customize future health programs. Going into 2015, the cloud tech provider s HR team Jiff Case Study 1

knew they had to make significant changes to in order to better engage their employee population. The Underlying Problem The cloud tech provider identified three main issues that impeded the success of their biometric screenings: 1. Awareness. The initial marketing campaign to drive awareness was quite limited. Despite occasional emails and a website dedicated to wellness, there were no targeted, consistent communications around the screenings. 2. Convenience. Appointment scheduling was cumbersome. Employees could schedule appointments online from their desktop, but it was a confusing, multi-step process. Many employees chose to circumvent the system altogether, and instead showed up for same-day screenings without an appointment, creating significant manual work for HR. 3. Motivation. The incentives for the program didn t resonate with employees. The only reward for completing the program was entry into a raffle to win a treadmill. Additionally, there were no updates to employees regarding the status of the giveaway, or further incentives to encourage employees to monitor their health once the program had concluded. The Solution The cloud tech provider had previously implemented Jiff Incentives for other health programs in January 2015 and saw an opportunity to use the platform for biometric screenings. To support this goal, Jiff integrated BioIQ, a health screening technology solution, into its platform. Together, Jiff and BioIQ partnered with Maxim, a provider of healthcare staffing and medical services, to administer the tests. Jiff collaborated closely with these partners to streamline the user experience around biometric screenings. The combined teams focused on three key components of the user experience in order to maximize engagement: 1. Internal Marketing Campaign Jiff s in-house creative team designed impactful promotional materials for the program, which helped drive widespread awareness and interest in the program. The materials included posters Jiff Case Study 2

that were highly visible and customized to the cloud tech provider s brand, as well as email templates and other digital collateral. Then, starting in May 2015, Jiff launched a two-pronged digital marketing campaign that used these creative assets. First, Jiff deployed an email drip campaign to all employees, with emails spaced out over the course of many weeks, so as not to overwhelm inboxes. Second, Jiff sent out mobile push notifications to existing users of the Incentives app. Together, these initiatives created buzz and excitement around the screening program. 2. Appointment Scheduling Jiff worked with BioIQ and Maxim to build a seamless, end-to-end solution for biometric screening. Jiff knew that the fewer steps to make an appointment, the better. In fact, each added step would complicate the user experience and contribute to attrition, abandonment, and lower satisfaction. Jiff devised a system where an employee could register, be onboarded, schedule an appointment, complete the appointment, view results online, earn and redeem incentives all in less than a minute. Accomplishing such a feat is easier said than done, but ultimately depends on two factors: religiously simple design and single sign-on functionality or the ability to log-into a third-party app without re-entering username credentials. It s important to note that the workflows Jiff devised with BioIQ didn t exist previously for either partner. Jiff worked closely with BioIQ to build an entirely new user experience that brought together the best aspects of both teams, which included Jiff s distinctive capabilities in design, personalization, incentives, and analytics. This new workflow now represents a standard best-practice user-interface that is used for all biometric screening programs. Jiff Case Study 3

3. Personalized Incentives Jiff worked with the cloud tech provider s HR team to design more compelling incentives, and then integrated them seamlessly into the user experience. First, employees were provided with the ability to choose their own reward. Through experience, Jiff has found that employees engage significantly more when given the opportunity to select their own prizes. So rather than offer everyone a raffle ticket with a grand prize, the incentives were structured on a point system. Employees who completed the screening received 1,500 points to be redeemed for a prize of their choice (valued at around $50) in the Jiff Store such as fitness trackers or fitness equipment. Second, Jiff incorporated the incentives experience directly into the same workflow as the biometric screening app. For employees, the ability to schedule an appointment, see test results, track points, and redeem points for a prize all in one place, was a huge engagement driver. It dramatically shortened the lag time between behavior and reward, which is critical to the success of any incentive program. The Result By using Jiff s enterprise benefits platform, the cloud tech provider was able leverage the power of customized communications, a seamless user experience, and personalized incentives to increase the biometric screening completion rate for the employee population three-fold. The success of this program helped the cloud tech provider reinforce a culture of healthy behaviors in their employee population. The company s HR team received an internal award from their senior leadership for implementing such a successful program. "The Jiff program has not only been instrumental in creating awareness about wellness at the company, but in essence, has created a branded experience that has allowed us to achieve Jiff Case Study 4

improvements like an increase in biometrics screening completion rate for the employee population by 300% from 2014 to 2015." HR Leader Now, the company has greater confidence that their investments in biometric screening programs will foster a healthier workforce, spur engagement in future programs, and ultimately lower healthcare costs. And due to this experience, the cloud tech provider plans to continue using the Jiff platform to engage even more employees in future health initiatives. About Jiff Jiff, Inc. is on a mission to help companies lower healthcare costs and cultivate happier, healthier employees. Jiff's enterprise health benefits platform integrates all the vendors employers already have in place, and lets them choose from a menu of pre-integrated services. By delivering personalized incentives, real-time data analytics, and a beautifully designed experience, Jiff targets individual employee cost drivers and increases utilization of those services proven to save money. Based in Mountain View, Calif., Jiff is led by veteran healthcare and technology leaders and serves some of the largest employers in the world. Smart benefits; brilliant design.
