Studieprogram M-PETENG, ENGELSK, 2014 HØST, versjon 31-May-2015 23:46:36 Petroleum Engineering - Master of Science Degree Programme Credits: 120 credits Level: Master's degree (2 years) Offered by: Faculty of Science and Technology, Department of Petroleum Engineering Grade name: Master of Science Full-time/Part-time: Full-time Duration: 4 semesters Language of instruction: English Introduction The master degree programme in petroleum engineering at the University of Stavanger is offered to Norwegian and international students. The language of instruction is English which will be an advantage for students who aim to work in an international environment. Content, structure, composition of the study programme 30 ECTS are joint courses which aim to ensure a broad and common foundation in main courses from the field of petroleum technology as well as complement and expand upon courses from the bachelor degree programme. The remaining 90 ECTS constitute of 60 ECTS in specialization courses and a master thesis (30 ECTS). The master thesis is an individual project undertaken and completed in the fourth and final term, often in close collaboration with the industry. Most of the specialization courses consist of 50 ECTS compulsory and 10 ECTS elective courses. The students will become familiar with a number of working and teaching methods, the use of modern computer technology, practical laboratory exercises and projects. The students will also do report writing and documentation. The excursion to Svalbard gives the students 5 ECTS. This is not a compulsory course and there are limited number of places. The University of Stavanger will always aim to offer all the study programmes as planned providing there are enough resources and/or students to implement the study programme. Over time the content of the study program will change and some of the courses will be replaced by courses considered to be more relevant in accordance with general developments in society. All the courses and study programmes undergo an annual revision. Every course has a description which covers the following topics: - Teaching and learning methods - Textbooks page 1
