Stem cells are cells that can differentiate into other types of tissue to restore function and reduce pain. The idea of stem cells often sounds so futuristic, but the truth is that they are real, and are being used to treat people all over the world. Adult stem cells are found in abundance in your body s fat tissue, wherein more than 5 million stem cells reside in every gram. Our medical professionals at Macquarie Stem Cells can extract cells from your own body (a process called autologous extraction) in order to provide treatment for your pain or discomfort using your very own cells. www.macquariestemcells.com

How are stem cells extracted? First we will extract the fat tissue (more technically known as adipose tissue) using a mini-liposuction procedure while the area is treated with local anaesthesia. Next we will need to treat the tissue to purify and refine the valuable regenerative cells. This is known as the ultrasonic cavitation process. During this process the fat cells and connecting collagen will be removed, leaving purified cells, which include stem cells, progenitor and other regenerating cells and growth factors. This mix of valuable regenerative cells is known as Stromal Vascular Fraction (SVF) cells, also referred to as stromal cells. About 60% of these SVF cells will be pure stem cells while the remainder will be a variation of other regenerative and growth cells. Once you ve extracted the cells what do you do with them? Before the cells are re-injected into your body during the final part of the process we will perform a quality test using an instrument called a flow cytometer which will examine the cell viability and count. It is only with this data that we will begin to understand why treatments are very successful, only slightly successful or not successful at all. Our principal doctor, Dr Ralph Bright also investigates advanced ways to preserve the extracellular matrix and improve bio-scaffolding to further perfect treatment. Once we have gathered the data we need, we will re-inject your stem cells into your body. To inject the cells back into your body we can use both simple reinjection and intravenous reinjection which has been found to almost double the effectiveness of the procedure. Once the stem cells are re-injected they will hone in on the site of injury and begin differentiating into the required tissue. The remaining progenitor cells and growth factors will then begin the process of repair and regeneration.

Stem Cell Therapy For You This treatment could be what you need to treat your pain and discomfort Am I a candidate for Stem Cell Therapy? Stem cell therapy isn t the ideal treatment for everyone, however if you are considering treatment we recommend coming in for a consultation to assess your candidacy. As a precaution we typically do not treat women who are pregnant, or people with the following conditions: Blood disorders Low BMI or insufficient fat reserves Infection Unstable illness Blood thinning medication Diabetes ** If you are suffering from any of the above conditions we still encourage you to visit our Sydney office for a consultation to assess your candidacy. www.macquariestemcells.com

Patients suffering from Osteoarthritis are great stem cell therapy candidates Problem: This condition occurs when your body s joints develop abnormalities, resulting in joint pain, tenderness, stiffness, locking, and sometimes an effusion. While there is no known cure for this condition our stem cell therapy procedure can work to improve your quality of life by encouraging the regeneration process in the affected area. Treatment: SVF cells will be re-injected into the affected joint in order to rehabilitate connective tissue and cartilage, which has been lost due to osteoarthritis of the knee, hip or spine. Get in touch to see if you are a stem cell candidate Visit Macquarie Stem Cells in Sydney for a consultation to discuss your candidacy, just because you have low BMI or a bleeding disorder doesn t necessarily mean we can t treat you. During your consultation we can assess your health and determine if you are a candidate for stem cell therapy.

Stem Cell Therapy in the Future An innovative solution for those difficult to treat conditions The future of Stem Cell Therapy Stem cells are extremely versatile which makes this treatment and extremely valuable scientific medical procedure. Scientists and Doctors are discovering new ways to use Stem Cell Therapy every day. Stem Cell Therapy for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) has shown success here at our Sydney office. The treatment is improving rapidly around the world and even though there is still a long way to go when treating this neurodegenerative disorder, we have confidence in the future success of this treatment. Future solutions The future of Stem Cell Therapy is endless, the more we explore treatments and the more our technology advances the more we can find solutions for conditions that are otherwise difficult to treat. Some promising treatments include: Missing teeth Wound healing Bone marrow Spinal cord injury Baldness Blindness Deafness Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig s/motor Neuron disease) Myocardial Infarction (MI or heart attack) Muscular Dystrophy Diabetes Crohn s Disease www.macquariestemcells.com
