M.S. in Education: The Options The Department of Elementary & Bilingual Education offers the following concentrations within the M.S. in Education: Elementary Curriculum & Instruction* Bilingual/Bicultural Education Educational Technology (online program) * Elementary Curriculum & Instruction is offered both on campus and online.

Elementary Curriculum and Instruction Concentration: *Optional Emphasis Diversity Early Childhood Education Math and Science Technology in Education *Contact the graduate coordinator for details on emphasis availability. Students may also to elect to have no emphasis within the concentration.

Program Details 30 semester units (10 three-unit courses) On-campus courses o are offered in late afternoons and evenings. o meet once a week for 3 hours (fall and spring semesters). Online program and courses o Educational Technology is offered 100% online o Online cohorts are formed each fall semester 100% online program in Elementary Curriculum and Instruction 16-month online program in Educational Technology o Online sections of select courses are available to all students. Summer courses are available.

Admissions Requirements Four-year bachelor s degree from an accredited institution 3.0 GPA for the last 60 units Teaching credential (preliminary or clear)* or equivalent experience** * For information about the teaching credential, go to http://ed.fullerton.edu/edel/future-students/ ** Equivalent experience might include several years teaching in a preschool or private school setting. Contact the Graduate Coordinator for more information. (See final slide for contact information.)

The Application Process Go to www.csumentor.edu Indicate an M.S. in Education as your objective Indicate your concentration (see slide 6) Complete all requested information Pay application fee Submit transcripts

What Happens Next? Once the campus receives your application, application fee, and transcripts The Office of Admissions and Records conducts an initial review. Your paperwork is sent to the department of interest. The Graduate Coordinator will review the paperwork.

Next Steps You are notified. You receive a single letter with an explanation if you are denied admission. You receive two letters (within a week or two of one another) if you are granted admission. The University s Office of Admissions and Records provides formal admission notification. The Department provides a welcome letter with information about advisement.

Included in the Department s letter of welcome are The name and contact information of a faculty adviser who will assist you in the development of a study plan. A link to the Admission Acceptance Website.

The Study Plan All graduate students must* complete a study plan, which is submitted to the Office of Graduate Studies for approval. The study plan identifies the courses that the student will take in order to meet the requirements for the degree. * The study plan must be completed by you and your advisor and submitted to the Graduate Coordinator by the end of week four (4) of your first semester in the program. A hold will be placed on registration until the study plan has been submitted.

Length of Program Depends upon how many classes are taken each semester Typically, students complete the program in 2-3 years. For information about a 16-19 month program, email EDELGradPrograms@fullerton.edu. For information about a 16-month online program in Educational Technology, contact Dr. Loretta Donovan (ldonovan@fullerton.edu). All graduate programs must be completed within 5 years.

The Culminating Experience Students complete a project or thesis. Project (EDEL 594): curriculum development, handbook for staff or parent education Thesis (EDEL 597): typically a research study (Must be approved by the Graduate Coordinator. Students are enrolled in a small-group seminar during their final semester and are guided through the development of their project or thesis by a faculty member.
