Funding NHS courses NHS Eligibility criteria To be eligible for NHS bursary funding, you must satisfy three requirements relating to residence and immigration status on the first day of the first academic year of your course. On that day you must: have been resident in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man throughout the three years preceding that date (living here mainly to receive full-time education, when you would normally live elsewhere, does not satisfy the residency status) have settled status in the UK within the meaning of the Immigration Act 1971 be ordinarily resident in any UK country

Funding NHS courses Tuition Fees for NHS Courses: Eligible students on NHS funded courses do not pay tuition fees. The NHS meet the full cost of tuition fees. Living Costs: All eligible students can apply for: An income-assessed NHS bursary A non-income assessed NHS grant - 1,000 Additional allowances for eligible students (depending on your circumstances, most are income-assessed) Disabled Students Allowance You can also apply for: A reduced rate of Maintenance Loan from Student Finance England (non income-assessed). Practice placement expenses

How to apply for the NHS bursary Once the student has a confirmed place on the course the university will send the students details to the NHS Student Bursaries unit The NHS Student Bursaries unit will enter your details onto their admin system They will then write to each student with a unique reference number advising you to apply please do so as soon as possible to prevent delays with your payment March 2016 - apply by January 2016 Students can apply for their bursary online via BOSS (Bursary Online Support System) on the NHS Student Bursaries website Applications can only be made up to 6 months after starting your course; after then they would not be considered When applying make sure you complete the correct year of entry form. How to apply for the NHS bursary Once you have submitted the online form you will need to send your evidence (such as ID or household income details) to the NHSBSA via special delivery so your application can be processed It takes approximately 28 working days to process the application. Once the NHS have assessed the application students will receive a Notification of Award. The University will confirm with the NHS the student has enrolled on the course, NHS Student Bursaries will then process the bursary payment The bursary and additional allowances will be paid in monthly instalments. The first instalment will be paid approximately 10 days after the student enrols and will cover the first two months of study

How to apply for the reduced student loan from Student Finance England Most NHS students are eligible to apply for the reduced rate of Maintenance Loan, even if they have received a student loan for previous study. It is paid in 3 instalments across the year. For students starting in 2014 this will be: 2,324 for students living away from home 1,744 for students living at parental home Apply online at: www.gov.uk/studentfinance It is best to apply for the Maintenance Loan as soon as you can. Delay in applying usually results in delays in receiving your funding! When applying make sure you complete the correct year of entry form. Students starting in September 2015 and March 2016 will apply on the 2015/16 application form.

Repaying the student loan The loan becomes repayable after you leave your course. You will only start making repayments when your income is over 404 a week or 1,750 a month or 21,000 a year In 14/15 students pay 9% of income over this threshold For example, a graduate earning 24,000 repays 22.00 per month The interest rate applies from 1 st September to 31 st August each year. It is charged on the loan as soon as it is paid to you Rate of interest under review please see an adviser or check www.gov.uk/studentfinance for details

Northumbria Academic Scholarship Northumbria University will award students an Academic Excellence Scholarship if you achieve more than 320 UCAS tariff points from your highest grades of 3 qualifications on entry. UCAS points from best 3 qualifications Northumbria Scholarship 320-359 2,000 360-399 3,000 400 + 4,000 Paid in entry year only Additional qualifying criteria : be ordinarily resident in the UK First degree Northumbria your firm choice Register with Student Finance
