Cisco Configuration Professional for Cisco Integrated Services Routers and WAN Edge Routers Product Overview Cisco Configuration Professional is a graphical user interface (GUI) device management tool for Cisco IOS Software based access routers including Cisco Integrated Services Routers and Cisco 7200, and 7301 Series Routers. Cisco Configuration Professional simplifies router, security, Unified Communications, wireless, WAN and basic LAN configuration through GUI-based easy-touse wizards. The workflows in Cisco Configuration Professional help medium-sized business and enterprise customers and Cisco partners to quickly and easily deploy, configure, and monitor a Cisco router without requiring knowledge of the command-line interface (CLI). Cisco Configuration Professional is a valuable productivity-enhancing tool for network administrator and channel partners deploying routers in medium-sized businesses and enterprise branch offices. Cisco Configuration Professional allows them to implement router, Unified communications, security, and wireless network configurations with reduced cost and increased confidence and ease. Cisco Configuration Professional configurations have been approved by the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC), which means that configuration checks built into Cisco Configuration Professional reduce errors. Cisco Configuration Professional also helps customers avoid potential network issues by proactively monitoring router performance statistics, system logs, and security logs in real time. Cisco Configuration Professional offers smart wizards and advanced configuration support for Cisco LAN and WAN interfaces, Network Address Translation (NAT), stateful and application firewall policy, IPS, IPSec VPN, QoS, and NAC policy features. Cisco Configuration Professional is the new device manager for the ISRs and will replace SDM (Cisco Router and Security Device Manager) over time. Like SDM, Cisco Configuration Professional assumes a general understanding of networking technologies and terms but assists individuals unfamiliar with the Cisco CLI. Over time Cisco Configuration Professional functionality will expand to include more voice features and other technologies. To see when a new version of Cisco Configuration Professional is available for download, visit http://www.cisco.com/go/ciscocp periodically. Cisco customers and partners who want to configure the router out of the box can use Cisco Configuration Professional Express. Cisco Configuration Professional Express is a GUI tool that is embedded in the flash of the router. This tool helps Cisco partners and customers with out-of-thebox configuration of access router LAN/WAN interfaces and minimal Cisco IOS Software security features. Customer Benefits Today s businesses depend on network-based applications and communications tools more than ever before. To preserve essential communications with your partners and customers, maintain the productivity of your employees, and sustain the profitability of your business, you need to make sure that your network is secure, reliable, and performing optimally at all times. business networks can encompass a wide range of wired and wireless networking, security, and voice technologies. Making sure that your network is configured and operating properly is a complex, costly, and time-consuming task. Cisco Configuration Professional is a device management tool that can be used by businesses to address these challenges. Cisco Configuration Professional provides in-depth configuration GUI screens that can be used by customers and partners to easily configure complex routing, security, voice, and wireless features in the router. Ease of Use and Built-In Application Intelligence Users of Cisco Configuration Professional can remotely configure and monitor their Cisco routers without using the Cisco IOS Software CLI. The Cisco Configuration Professional GUI (Figure 1) aids nonexpert users of Cisco IOS Software in their day-to-day operations; provides easy-to-use smart wizards; automates router, security, and voice management; and assists users through comprehensive online help and tutorials. Figure 1. Cisco Configuration Professional Homepage with Configuration Options Cisco Configuration Professional smart wizards guide users step by step through community creation and router configuration workflow by systematically configuring LAN, WLAN, and WAN interfaces; firewalls; intrusion prevention systems (IPSs); and IP Security (IPsec) VPNs. Cisco Configuration Professional smart wizards can intelligently detect incorrect configurations and propose fixes, such as allowing Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) traffic through a firewall if the WAN interface is DHCP addressed. Online help embedded within Cisco Configuration Professional contains appropriate background information, in addition to step-bystep procedures to help users enter correct data into Cisco Configuration Professional. 2008 Cisco Systems, Inc. Networking, security, and voice terms and definitions that users might encounter are included in an online glossary. For network professionals familiar with Cisco IOS Software and security features, Cisco Configuration Professional offers advanced configuration tools to quickly configure and fine-tune router security features, allowing network professionals to review the commands generated by Cisco Configuration Professional before delivering the configuration changes to the router. This preview feature has also been used by those less familiar with the Cisco CLI to learn more about Cisco recommended configuration for Cisco IOS Software routing and security features. This preview feature will be available, in a later release, for GUI screens that download Cisco CLI commands to Cisco CallManager Express and Cisco Unity Express. Integrated Security Configuration When deploying a new router, Cisco Configuration Professional users can configure a Cisco IOS Software firewall quickly using the best practices recommended by the International Computer Security Association (ICSA) and the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC). An advanced firewall wizard allows a single-step deployment of high, medium, or low application firewall policy settings. Cisco Configuration Professional users can configure the strongest VPN defaults and automatically perform security audits (see Figure 2). In addition, Cisco Configuration Professional users can perform one-step router lockdown for firewalls and one-step VPN for quick deployment of secure site-to-site connections. Figure 2. Security Audit 2008 Cisco Systems, Inc. All rights reserved. This document is Cisco Public Information. Page 3 of 10

When invoked on an already configured router, Cisco Configuration Professional allows users to perform one-step security audits to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of their router configurations against common security vulnerabilities. Administrators can fine-tune their existing router security configurations to better suit their business needs. Cisco Configuration Professional also can be used for day-to-day operations such as monitoring, fault management, and troubleshooting. Integrated Voice Configuration Cisco Configuration Professional can easily setup your Cisco IP telephony system by configuring the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express call processing and Cisco Unity Express voicemail applications embedded in your Cisco integrated services router. When deploying a new IP Telephony system, Cisco Configuration Professional users can quickly configure features required for an initial telephony deployment including users, phones, extensions, dial-plans, Time Division Multiplexing trunks, and Survivable Remote Site Telephony. The user can also configure several voice system features such as paging groups, adhoc conferencing and night service. When invoked on an already configured router, Cisco Configuration Professional allows an administrator to easily make day-2 changes such as moves, adds and changes of phone users on the deployed configuration. Cisco Configuration Professional uses the best practices recommended by the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) while generating all configuration. Simply access the voice services on the Cisco Configuration Professional dashboard to easily set up and configure the system (Figure 3). Figure 3. Cost Savings Cisco Configuration Professional is ideal for the enterprise branch offices and medium-sized businesses that are sensitive to device deployment and network management costs and have few skilled technicians. Cisco Configuration Professional allows businesses and Cisco channel partners to implement routing, security, voice, and network configurations easily and confidently. Cisco IOS Software security software configurations generated by Cisco Configuration Professional are approved by the Cisco TAC. Cisco IOS Software voice software configurations generated by Cisco Configuration Professional are recommended by CCIE voice experts at Cisco. Cisco Configuration Professional enhances the productivity of network, security and voice administrators through built-in configuration checks, a configuration editor for experts, and meaningful defaults. Cisco Configuration Professional features provide an additional advantage of improved network availability through reduced instances of configuration errors. For businesses with larger networks, Cisco Configuration Professional can be used to build an ideal configuration and then deployed through network management tools such as the Cisco CNS Configuration Engine 2.0.
