Learning Styles and Aptitudes Learning style is the ability to learn and to develop in some ways better than others. Each person has a natural way of learning. We all learn from listening, watching something performed, reading, and by touching or practicing. However, we may have the tendency to learn faster from one method than the others. If we are going to be successful we must improve the way we learn in all situations. Aptitude is the potential ability to do something. It is what we are naturally good at. You will find a direct correlation between your learning style and your natural aptitudes and abilities. These will be the areas that you should explore for future career opportunities. You will also notice that brain orientation is one of the factors in determining the manner in which a person learns or retains knowledge best. Take a look at the left-brain/right-brain dominant learning tendencies and the aptitudes that a person possesses. There are four main learning styles: Intellectual Capacity, Visual Perception, Auditory Perception, and Physical Dexterity. Each of these four learning styles has a left-brain and a right-brain dominant aptitude. The left-brained learning tendency for intellectual capacity is Logical and the right-brain dominant thinker is creative. Visual perception is typically a right-brain dominant tendency, however spatial perception is more creative and form perception is more of a two dimensional exactness. On the other hand, auditory perception is typically left-brain dominant. Tonal perception is rhythmic and creative whereas verbal perception is linguistic. Physical dexterity is generally more right-brain dominant learning, but manual dexterity uses the smaller muscle skills for organization and motor coordination uses the larger muscles for performing. Most people are whole-brain dominant using both hemispheres to learn. Whether the aptitude to learn is strong or weak they must be honed to improve the ability to perform necessary skills to be successful. A person may have the interest and desire to do a particular job, but if their aptitude for learning is weak the person will may have to work much harder to be successful than others who have the natural ability to learn and develop their skills in that area.
