Local People Working Together Not just a customer Unlike other financial institutions, a credit union is owned and operated by the people it serves, with each member having one vote, regardless of the number of shares held. There are no stockholders to be driven only by profit this makes your credit union different from any other financial institution. Members are united by a common bond of association and democratically operate under credit union regulations. Eligibility Heritage Family Credit Union is a federally-chartered community credit union. You are eligible to join Heritage Family Credit Union if you live, work, worship, do business, or go to school in any of the following communities: Rutland, Addison, Bennington, Windsor or Windham counties, and the town of Hooksett, N.H. Contact a Financial Services Representative to see if you qualify for membership. In addition, as a member of the credit union, each of your family related by blood, marriage or adoption (i.e., sister, spouse, grandmother, great aunt, stepchild, etc.) is entitled to join the credit union and take advantage of credit union services. Good return and low rates The credit union is a member owned not-for-profit cooperative formed for the purpose of encouraging savings by offering a good return. The collective monies are used to make loans at competitively low interest rates to members, and provide a multitude of other financial services to our members. We are constantly looking for new and better ways to provide our members with the most current, convenient and beneficial financial services. Local leadership Your credit union s operation is the responsibility of the Board of Directors. In addition to the board, there are several committees which perform various duties to ensure quality service, and maintain safety and soundness. These committees include the Supervisory Committee and Loan Review Committee, which carry out the objectives established by the board. All of the Directors are volunteers, which are elected by the membership at the Annual Meeting held in the spring of each year.

Deposit insurance All deposits at the Heritage Family Credit Union are federally insured to at least $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration. Certain accounts, such as IRA s and Keoghs, are insured separately up to $250,000. Copies of the NCUA brochure Your Insured Funds are available at each branch office and main office of the Credit Union and are also available upon request. Your Rights and Responsibilities You are a member and co-owner of this credit union. This is your financial co-operative and you have certain rights and responsibilities as member-owners. Your Rights Right to fair pricing: Our rates are set to reflect costs, ensure a financially sound credit union and provide benefits. There are no hidden costs or unadvertised special deals. Right to friendly, personable service: Our staff will strive to provide the highest quality personal service and correct any problems in an efficient, professional manner. Right to an equal vote: At our annual meeting and other member meetings, each member has an equal vote. Right to run for office: The Board of Directors are fellow members elected to represent members interests. Every member has the right to stand for election to the Board of Directors, which is voted upon at our annual meeting. Your Responsibilities Be aware of new products and procedures: You will make every effort to read the materials provided to members that explain or promote new credit union services and procedures. Use and promote your credit union: The more business you bring to the credit union, the stronger it becomes and the more each member benefits. Treat HFCU employees with respect: The staff are fellow members and deserve the same respect and dignity that we demand as service users. Protect the integrity of your account: Protect your accounts by not giving out account information to unknown parties and verify account information provided on statements, etc.

Saving for the Future The credit union offers a full range of savings and deposit accounts. The following accounts should help in meeting your deposit needs. A member may wish to designate another person as a joint owner of his or her account(s) by completing a joint owner card. Share (Savings) Accounts Your regular savings are called shares because you own your credit union and shares denote ownership. By opening a Primary Share Account, members qualify for all other credit union services. The minimum initial deposit to open a Primary Share Account is $25.00. Club Accounts Club Accounts are a convenient way to set aside funds for the hard to budget items such as property taxes and fuel. Members may add to these accounts on a regular basis, through automated deductions or on an as needed basis. Holiday Accounts Holiday Accounts are the only Club Accounts with a specific purpose. Because holiday accounts are used to save for holiday purchases, they are set up a bit differently from regular club accounts. Holiday accounts are distributed to members in early October. Share Draft (Checking) Accounts Share Draft Accounts are transaction accounts which work in the same manner as bank checking accounts. Share Draft Accounts make no demands on your pocketbook. There are no minimum balance requirements or monthly processing charges. Members may request to have a Share Draft Account with or without overdraft protection. Heritage Family Credit Union offers two Share Draft accounts, Value Share Draft Accounts and Premier Share Draft Accounts. Value Share Draft Accounts are Heritage Family s basic free share draft account. Premier Share Draft Accounts are Heritage Family s fullyfeatured share draft account with fraud protection and credit report monitoring. There is a monthly fee for the Premier Share Draft Account.

Money Market Share Accounts Money Market Share Accounts (MMSAs) are savings vehicles offering higher rates of return than other savings accounts. You can obtain higher dividend rates than traditional Share and Share Draft Accounts and are allowed unlimited transfers via ATMs and in person. Dividend Disclosure: Your credit union pays dividends on Share, Share Draft and Club accounts as follows: Dividends are calculated on your daily balance and paid to the accounts on a monthly basis. The Board of Directors declares dividends each month. Federal law prohibits the credit union from paying dividends in excess of available earnings. Health Savings Accounts Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) are tax-friendly savings accounts that allow you to build a fund for future medical expenses that insurance may not cover. Anyone under 65 who is covered by a qualified High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) and not another health insurance carrier or Medicare may be eligible to open an account. If you are claimed as a dependent by another person, you are not eligible to open an HSA. Other benefits: You will save money through lower premiums and tax breaks Money deposited into your account may be used to pay your deductible or other out-of-pocket expenses Spouses can inherit the account

You keep the account even if you change jobs, plans, or retire Access funds with checks or an HSA Debit Card Meeting Your Lending Needs The credit union offers a risk-based lending policy called Performance Plus Lending in order to offer the best possible rates based on each individual s financial performance or credit history. The rate you pay is determined by your credit score and term of the loan. Members may apply for any type of consumer loan or mortgage by logging onto our website at www.hfcuvt.com, contacting the call center, or visiting any of our branches. Loans may be repaid over the counter, through home banking, or set up to automatically transfer from your account each month. Since interest is charged on the unpaid balance only, there is no penalty for early payment of your loan. Secured (Auto) Loans Secured Loans are loans in which the loan proceeds are utilized to purchase collateral and that collateral is pledged by the member as security for the loan. You may finance an array of goods, including automobiles, motorcycles, ATVs, boats and other recreational vehicles using a secured consumer loan. You may also secure a loan with an amount pledged in a Prime Share Account, Term Share Certificate or Stock Certificate. Because of the minimal risk involved, limited documentation is required for Share & Certificate Secured Loan requests. All members with a Share Draft (Checking) Account are eligible to apply for an automatic overdraft line-of-credit. This optional line-of-credit is like having a security blanket for your Share Draft Account. Mortgage Loans The credit union offers first and second Mortgages with a variety of rates and terms, and we are proud to service all of our mortgages locally. Our rates are very competitive and change on a daily basis. If you are looking for a new home, we encourage you to check with us for all of your mortgage needs. Home Equity Loans/Lines of Credit Heritage Family Credit Union offers Home Equity Loans and Home Equity Lines of Credit (HELOCs) to our members at super-competitive rates. Do you know the difference between Home Equity Loans and HELOCs? Both types, Home Equity Loans and Home Equity Lines of Credit, are secured by the mortgage you have on your home. If you are looking to tap into the equity of your home, it s important to know the difference between these two kinds of loans. A Home Equity Loan is a one-time loan with a fixed interest rate that you pay over a set period of time. Once you have initiated the loan, you cannot borrow further against it. In other words, once established, you cannot change the terms of the loan unless you refinance the loan in its entirety. Many homeowners like the option of locking in a fixed rate with a home equity loan because it protects them against rising interest rates. A Home Equity Line of Credit (or HELOC) is a different animal entirely. It is a line of credit that you can draw against any time. A HELOC offers additional flexibility over a Home Equity Loan. For example, you can borrow up to the limit and pay down your debt at your own pace, as long as you meet the monthly minimum payment requirements. Unlike Home Equity Loans, HELOCs have an interest rate that fluctuates with the market. Both Home Equity Loans and HELOCs offer one big advantage over other types of loans. In most cases, homeowners can deduct the interest they pay on their loans on their yearly tax forms. This has made equity loans extremely popular for a variety of purchases including new cars, home renovations, weddings and other large expenses. (consult your tax adviser on interest deductibility) Once you have established a Home Equity Line of Credit, you can access the available funds quickly and easily. Simply write a check from your Home Equity checks (provided at closing) or transfer funds from your line to another account using e-teller or by contacting our call center at 888.252.8932. Best of all, you can use the funds for a variety of purposes including home improvements, college education, new automobile, vacations, refinancing high interest accounts, etc.

Home Equity rates are based on a member s creditworthiness. That means the rate you receive depends on your credit score. Construction Loans Heritage Family Credit Union is the place to go if you are planning on building. Offering a great rate with flexible construction periods, the credit union gives you the resources and flexibility you need. Loan Calculation Disclosure: Your credit union calculates interest on loans as follows: Interest is calculated on the unpaid balance for all credit union loans, consumer and real estate. Therefore, the amount of interest paid daily (daily interest) is lowered with each principal and interest payment. There is no prepayment penalty for paying off a loan before its maturity. Safeguarding Your Loans MEMBER S CHOICE Borrower Security Now you don t have to lay awake at night worrying about what will happen if the unexpected occurs. MEMBER S CHOICE Borrower Security can take care of canceling your eligible loan, up to the agreement maximum, should you die before paying off your loan. In addition, if you become disabled due to a covered illness or injury, or become involuntarily unemployed, MEMBER S CHOICE Borrower Security can cancel your monthly loan payment, up to the agreement maximum. With MEMBER S CHOICE Borrower Security, you pay low group rates and only buy enough protection to cover your loan balance, making payments truly affordable. Life, Disability and Involuntary Unemployment Protection is available on all consumer loans, including credit cards and Home Equity loans. Mechanical Repair Coverage Members can protect their vehicles against the high cost of auto repairs by purchasing a Mechanical Repair Coverage policy through the credit union. Various coverages are available, depending on the vehicle, the member s driving habits, and how long the member plans to keep the vehicle. Guaranteed Asset Protection For a few dollars a month, Guaranteed Asset Protection (GAP) can save you from making payments on a car, truck, or other vehicle that is beyond repair, or stolen and not recovered. GAP coverage also includes up to $1,000 toward your down payment of a replacement vehicle (where allowed by law and when financed by our credit union).

You may be eligible to reduce your taxable income by making an IRA contribution. Consult a tax advisor for all tax advice. Medicare Supplemental Insurance Heritage Family Credit Union is your partner for all stages of life, and can assist you in understanding your Medicare health insurance benefits, as well as provide you with cost effective Medicare Supplement Insurance options. Medicare Supplement Insurance (or MediGap

Insurance) helps pay for deductibles and gaps in medical treatment not covered by Original Medicare. Heritage Family is a trusted resource to get your questions answered and offer you the advice and benefit options you need, with no obligation. Term Share Certificates Term Share Certificates are investment tools for individuals to earn a guaranteed interest rate on a specified amount of funds for a specific term. This rate is usually higher than regular shares. Certificates may be opened at any time. Although there is a minimum amount required to open a certificate, there is no maximum allowed for deposit. NCUA share insurance provides protection up to at least $250,000 per individual. Taking Care of Business The credit union offers a full range of services to fit all of your business needs. Increase your relationship and save Heritage Family Credit Union created the program levels based on the total number of deposit and loan services/balances you have in your household. Households are determined by individuals with the same last name that live at the same address. What level could you be if you and your family use Heritage Family Credit Union as your primary financial institution? The best way to increase your level and your benefits is to add or utilize more services at your credit union. Consider these possibilities: Refinance your vehicle from another financial institution Open an IRA or Share Certificate Choose the credit union for a low interest Home Equity Loan Apply for one of our low interest Visa cards Move your Share Draft Account to Heritage Family If a primary member is joint on another account, those accounts may also be manually linked by a financial service representative to be included in the primary members total point value. Total point values will be calculated at the end of each month to determine the following month s relationship.
