Ever feel you have too many things to manage? What if, for a change, your systems could tell you when they need managing? In this ideal world, they collect all relevant information and present it to you in a short and precise readable format. Then, they nudge you at the right time and they also know how to reach you when you are on the move. The Web-based SAP DB Control Center systems console enables your database and systems administrators to manage servers across the enterprise. MANAGE COMPLEXITY ACROSS THE ENTERPRISE Managing systems throughout an enterprise invokes many layers of complexity. Often, administrators must deal with challenges such as: Dispersed geography Typically, systems are spread across geographies, but administrators can t be everywhere they are. Conflicting data A complex telemetry of information obscures what s happening with database and IT systems. Where some data indicates systems are healthy, other data says they aren t. IT needs a straightforward and simple way to assess the health of each system. Restrictive measurement and monitoring tools Watching for suspicious activity over a closed-circuit television feed of systems management telemetry is not enough. Since you can t be a night watchman to your systems, you need to be alerted to problems. In addition, it is quite pointless if you are informed after systems are already in trouble. You need to be informed before trouble hits. False alarms Is it too much to ask that you shouldn t be bothered by false alarms? Aside from inconvenience, false alarms can divert your attention from other real issues. Alerts without obvious solutions Although being informed is better than not being informed, it is a recipe for frustration if your systems alert you to trouble without a means to fix or undo it. So you want effective tools that can help you mitigate big problems quickly even when you are not at your office desktop. Incompatible growth Your systems management solution must be able to scale and keep up as your systems expand and grow. With such a tall list of challenges to overcome, organizations need a way to simplify enterprise systems management. Considering how vital the management of systems is to your organization s business objectives, you need a high-quality, cohesive solution that does it all and does it well. Joining multiple solutions from multiple parties is rarely a viable answer. With its simple Web-based administration, SAP DB Control Center may well grant your wish. 3 / 11
Steer Your Systems SAP DB Control Center is the new-generation, enterprise-class SAP software systems management technology that enables database and systems administrators to administer and monitor a variety of SAP solutions using a common graphical user interface, either locally or remotely. As depicted in Figure 1, SAP DB Control Center acts as the steering wheel and dashboard for your SAP system. Tools for graphing these statistics allow detection of application problems and trends in a timely and precise manner, facilitating the tuning of the SAP software environment. Historical Data Repository The control center has a central data repository that stores performance-monitoring data metrics. Graphical reports can be easily generated from this data and used for trend analysis and other planning purposes. The data repository provides full and incremental backup capabilities for data collected in the repository. Regular backups can be scheduled and used to restore the repository and roll back undesirable changes or recover from a catastrophic event. A history log lets you review past backup activities. The repository can be purged automatically after scheduled backups or on a separate schedule. Event Notification An alert system is built into SAP DB Control Center. Real-time alerts can be sent to both computers and mobile devices by e-mail, providing real-time alert notification anytime, anywhere. Alert thresholds can be customized to meet specific business requirements. The alert system also allows a script execution capability, whereby the triggering of an alert can be set up to execute a prewritten script. Security Security features include single-sign-on capability, so when you log in to the control center, it is not necessary to log in to each managed server in the back end. In addition, the control center employs role-based authorization for SAP ASE and SAP IQ servers so that administrators can assign different roles to users based on the monitoring tasks they need to perform. Graphical Interface Presentation The control center is a rich Internet application, and its features and functionalities are presented in a graphical interface powered by Adobe Flash. SAP DB Control Center presents dashboard monitors, heat charts, reports, views, and perspectives that highlight server conditions, making it easy to distinguish which systems require attention. Topology View With servers in multiple geographic locations, associations and linkages can be complicated. The topology view provides a graphical display of those relationships, illustrating how servers are connected and how they interact with one another. Although being informed is better than not being informed, it is a recipe for frustration if your systems alert you to trouble without a means to fix or undo it. SAP DB Control Center can help you mitigate big problems quickly. 5 / 11

Use the administrative console s search and filter tools to quickly find the resources or objects within resources that interest you. 8 / 11
Replication Monitors Using a graphical presentation, the control center provides a quick view of two important aspects of replication: throughput and latency. You can see the amount of data being transferred (throughput) and the amount of time it takes (latency) all in one dashboard-style monitor. With such visual help, potential problems can be identified efficiently. These monitors show a number of small graphs that let you watch trends and spot anomalies quickly. These graphs can be maximized for detailed viewing. Detailed latency monitoring allows the monitoring of a replication path from the primary database to the replicate; for each path monitored, a stacked graph shows the amount of latency along different points in the path. This allows the quick identification of potential bottlenecks. The monitors also have a quick administration capability that includes configuration as well as basic command and control such as suspend and resume. DATA ASSURANCE OPTION When used with SAP Replication Server, SAP DB Control Center offers the following support for data assurance features. Comparesets Comparesets are sets of tables and columns that define the data being compared in a particular job. Using SAP DB Control Center, you can create new comparesets or view, edit, and delete existing ones. You can also view data partition boundaries. Data Assurance Jobs You can run data assurance jobs for row comparison or schema comparison. You can also manage and run data assurance jobs to view reports, job status, and job history. Replication Topology The topology view shows the data flow direction between servers in the replication environment. Server icons and connection lines display the server health and the interconnecting status, respectively. Replication tracing in the topology view allows tracing the paths from the primary or replicate database, or from a replication server. 9 / 11
