Included in this supplemental application packet are descriptions of the required application materials and the required Occupational Therapy Assistant recommendation form. Application Deadlines: Early decision deadline: December 1 Regular deadline: May 1 Applicants should compile the application, supplemental application, application fee, and supporting documentation under one cover and submit these items to the Office of Admissions. Applications are reviewed by the Office of Admissions to determine if the applicant has submitted all required documentation. This application fee may be submitted via a check or money order made payable to Touro College Personal Statement: The personal statement should be a typed, clear and concise, 500 word essay on your motivation to become an Occupational Therapy Assistant. Appropriate content may include: your personal and academic background, your career goals, experiences that nurtured your interest in the health field and in the OT profession specifically, the impact of your required observation hours, and any other factors you feel are relevant to admission. Volunteer hours: Applicants to the Occupational Therapy Assistant program are required to perform 35 hours of volunteer service in an Occupational Therapy setting. Applicants often receive an OT/OTA recommendation from the OT/OTA they completed their volunteer hours with. If your recommendation comes from an OT/OTA that you completed your volunteer hours with, please use the provided recommendation form to document the number of volunteer hours you have completed. Applicants who completed hours with someone who is not submitting a recommendation form for them should request that the OT/OTA supervisor complete and sign documentation on their letterhead stating the number of hours completed, the type of setting, and your specific duties during this volunteer experience. 1
Letters of Recommendation: List the names of the two people who will be submitting letters of recommendation on your behalf using the recommendation form provided in this supplemental application packet. Applicants must submit at least one recommendation from an Occupational Therapist or Occupational Therapy Assistant. The other recommendation should include someone who can evaluate your personal background and/or academic experience and/or your knowledge of and potential for the Occupational Therapy Assistant profession. Recommendations should not include personal friends or family. Name: Name: Official High School Transcript or GED Certificate: Touro College requires that all applicants who have graduated from high school in the United States or have received a GED certificate must submit an official high school transcript or GED score report. Official transcripts of all college-level coursework: If you have completed coursework in college, Touro College requires that you submit an official transcript for evaluation to the Office of Admissions. Your transcripts will be evaluated during the admissions process and transfer credit may be awarded for courses deemed equivalent to the liberal arts requirements of the OTA program. Foreign credentials must be evaluated by a School of Health Sciences-approved agency. A list of approved agencies can be found by visiting www.naces.org/member.htm Placement examinations: For applicants who have not already taken college-level English or Mathematics, placement exams in English and Mathematics are required. For international students, additional testing may also be required. If testing is required, the Office of Admissions will notify you of the appropriate tests that must be taken in order to continue the application process. Standardized tests: Applicants are encouraged, but not required to, submit Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Testing (ACT) scores with the application for admission.
