APPROVED CONTRACTOR Scheme Overview NICEIC s Approved Contractor Scheme represents the pinnacle of contracting excellence in the UK. It is designed to maintain and publish a roll of approved electrical contractors that have been assessed against a specific set of requirements including competency. The scheme is open to any contractor or contracting organisation that is actively engaged in electrical contracting and can demonstrate their competence to undertake electrical installation work in accordance with BS7671. Inclusive in the price of this scheme is the Domestic Installer Scheme and/or the Certifier of Construction Scheme, once the requirements and competence has been demonstrated. The Jersey Notification Scheme may also be inclusive if the applicant is a Qualified Supervisor of an Approved Contractor. Benefits The use of the NICEIC Approved Contractor mark on their stationery, website, vehicles and advertising material Access to the NICEIC Online certification system so they can certify and notify their jobs online Technical support and a secure log in area on the NICEIC website All electrical work benefits from the Platinum Promise 4

PART P SCHEMES Scheme Overview Registration with either the NICEIC Domestic Installer Scheme or ELECSA Part P Scheme allows assessed businesses to selfcertify their own domestic electrical installation work and ensure it is compliant with the requirements of Part P of the Building Regulations. The schemes cover the design, installation, inspection & testing and certification of electrical work associated with dwellings, intended to operate at low or extra low voltage in accordance with BS7671 and the Building Regulations. Benefits Acceptance of Building Compliance Certificates by local authorities without costly Building Control inspection fees Access to the NICEIC or ELECSA Online certification system so they can certify and notify their jobs online The use of the NICEIC Domestic Installer or ELECSA logo on their stationery, website, vehicles and advertising material Technical support and a secure log in area on the NICEIC or ELECSA website All their work covered by the Platinum Promise Eligibility for TrustMark approval 5

MICROGENERATION SCHEME (MCS) Scheme Overview NICEIC & ELECSA are licenced to run the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) for installers of Environmental Technologies. Consumers and householders can gain access to the financial incentives such as Feed in Tariffs (FITs) and the Renewable Heat Incentives (RHIs) by using MCS Registered Installers and MCS Certified Products. The Department of Energy and Climate Change designed MCS to protect the funding, consumers and industry and to ensure robust standards of competence are met and maintained. Technologies covered Solar Thermal Hot Water Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Micro Wind Turbines Heat Pumps (Ground and Air source) Biomass Combined Heat and Power (CHP) 6

GREEN DEAL INSTALLER SCHEME Scheme Overview NICEIC & ELECSA are licenced to run Green Deal Installer Schemes for companies who install energy efficient measures in accordance with PAS 2030. It is a requirement of Green Deal finance, Home Improvement cashback and ECO that installers work in accordance with this standard. The Department of Energy and Climate Change designed Green Deal to improve the energy efficiency of buildings in the UK and achieve carbon targets; by providing access to funding for the installation of specific measures, looking for this framework to boost industry by ensuring the standard of work through competence and a robust management system. The Green Deal is anticipated to create an increased demand from homeowners, tenants and businesses to upgrade their properties without the need for any upfront payment. This could be because a customer wants to reduce their energy spend and improve the look and feel of their property or because they need the installation and would like to use the Green Deal as a way to pay for it to avoid the large upfront costs. Sample of the measures included Insulation - inc External, Internal and Cavity wall Heating systems - inc Gas, Oil and Electric Storage heaters Full list of measures can be found at www.grendealorb.co.uk Registration to the Green Deal Assessor Scheme is also available. 7

ADDITIONAL SCHEMES Competent Persons Scheme (CPS) NICEIC Competent Persons Schemes (CPS) allow registered installers who are competent in their field to self-certify certain types of building work as compliant with the requirements of the Building Regulations in England and Wales. Registrations included, but not limited to, are Oil, Plumbing, Solid Fuel, Insulation, Heating, Hot Water and Ventilation plus many more. BAFE This BAFE scheme has been developed for the Third Party Certification of those organisations involved in fire detection and fire alarm systems. The scheme recognises the importance of providing compliant systems, while at the same time minimising false alarms. Certifier of Construction Scheme NICEIC s Certifier of Construction Scheme is designed to enable qualified professionals to have the authority to certify work for building warrant purposes and to comply with the Scottish Building Regulations governing electrical installations in domestic and non-domestic buildings. PAT Testing Scheme NICEIC operates a national registration scheme for enterprises conducting Portable Appliance Testing (PAT). Jersey Notification Scheme EN 17024 accredited States of Jersey Register of Electrical Inspectors and Testers (Competent Person s Scheme). In September 2002 a requirement in the Building By Laws (Jersey) came into effect specifically requiring inspection, testing and certification of electrical installation work in buildings to be undertaken by persons who have been certified as competent. Then in July 2007 it also became a requirement that all electrical installation work in Jersey must be notified to the Local Authority Building Control Department. Anybody carrying out electrical work in Jersey will benefit from registering with this scheme as it will dramatically reduce their costs and time. NICEIC Hazardous Areas Scheme EN 45011 / ISO 17065 accredited Is an extension to scope only available to contractors that are Approved Contractors and can demonstrate and are undertaking electrical work in potentially explosive atmospheres.
