Wigston Central Surgery PPG meeting Monday August 3 rd 2015 Apologies Apologies received from Andrew Lancashire and Jane Coleman. Present May Hilton Arvinder Lotay Sandra Glew Jane Sinfield Practice Manager Amy Cooper Lynn Towers Bill Pickering Chairman Denise Randell Andrea Stevenson Judith Hartley Wilson Dr Mark Shaffu Bill Pickering (chair) asked Denise Randell to chair this meeting Minutes of last meeting Minutes of the last meeting on 18thMay 2015 were passed and approved. It was agreed that the minutes of the meetings would be published on the surgery website and the PPG notice board in the surgery. A hard copy will also be filed in the PPG file to be kept behind reception.

Matters Arising Newsletter-It was decided to keep the quarterly newsletter in the same format for the time being. DR apologised for the spelling mistake on the last newsletter. JS agreed to correct it on the website! PPG Surgery Noticeboard Bill Pickering and receptionists reported they had seen a noticeable rise in the number of people reading the information on the new layout /design of the PPG noticeboard in the surgery. Care Quality Commission Jane Sinfield reported there was no news yet of the impending inspection by the CQC. Open Surgery/Nurse Practitioner. The life sized poster of the nurse practitioner (that had been designed to advertise the medical problems she could deal with to help lessen the doctors workload in open morning surgery) has now been ordered after a mix up as to whose responsibility it was to order it. Matters arising from previous minutes There were no matters arising from the previous minutes. Feedback from the local PPG network meeting on June 29 th attended by Denise Randell A copy of the Oadby and Wigston PPG/PRG Locality Meeting are available to read in the Wigston Central surgery PPG folder behind reception. Primary Care Strategy and GP federation update Tracey Shepherd ELRCCG DR gave a brief outline of the above and JS explained that the GP federation for this area was still under discussion due to time constraints of the GPs and the local complexities which still need to be agreed. Sharing Primary Care Records with Secondary Sector-Serge Mozota

LT explained that in her job role at EMISS it is her understanding that from early next year patients will be asked if the doctor has permission to view their medical records at point of contact. This will support the sharing of patient s medical records with acute, urgent care and out of hours services in order to better diagnose and treat them. This is a one way use of information and there is no downloading of information and a trail is kept of access of the data. This will only be done with the patient s consent. The theory is that the patient will receive the right care, first time, every time. More details will be available at the surgery. Private hospitals will not have access to EMISS Group Update of Priority Actions DR reported we have had the merger of the 2 surgeries. Newsletter is produced with the PPG in conjunction with the practice manager. We have been promoting the Choose Wisely campaign and the Wheel of urgent Care Centres. Doctors at the surgery asked the PPG to promote going to see the Nurse Practitioner in Open Morning Surgery as they are struggling to cope with demand in the mornings. We do not want to lose this service. The PPG carried out a patient survey during PPG awareness week. See survey report for outcomes. Practice Manager Feedback Jane Sinfield told the PPG of the intention of the practice to close the services at the Springfield Road Surgery. She had attended a meeting on 30 th July with the NHS and CCG representatives. The next step is to write to all of the patients of the practice informing them of the proposal and the reasons for doing so. On Thursday 1 st October there is to be a consultation open evening at the Two Steeples Surgery to which all patients are invited. JS asked the PPG to design some display boards explaining the positives and negatives linked to this proposal. Questionnaires will be handed out and the results will be collated. The outcomes of the consultation will inform the decision and next steps. Patients who cannot attend the meeting will be asked to email/put in writing their

thoughts/questions/concerns prior to the meeting so that they can be discussed on the night. JS asked that patients were given details of bus routes etc of how to get to the Two Steeples Medical Centre so they can attend this meeting. This would be of particular interest to patients living near to the Springfield Road Practice. JS/BP/DR/AS to meet on 24 th August to discuss the information to go on the notice boards for the meeting. After further discussion JS explained that of the practice s 10500 patients, 2200 patients are registered at Springfield Road. JS outlined it was not cost effective to run 2 sites. The practice boundary runs up to Victoria Park Road. The practice is proposing to close Springfield Road by March 2016. It will be a closure application and not a relocation one. Wendy Bailey the Nurse Practitioner has left the surgery to work nearer to home. We welcome Valerie Murphy as the new Nurse Practitioner at the surgery. JS said the notice in the surgery about the threat of open morning surgery closing has had some impact with the numbers increasing to see the nurse practitioner thus taking the pressure off the doctors during this time. Dr Kelly Blaze will be going on maternity leave 1.10.15. We wish her well. JS said they are currently finding it very difficult to recruit a new GP to replace Dr Blaze. JS reported that there are still a few problems with the actual new building which will hopefully be resolved before the handover at the end of September. PPG Awareness Week Survey Feedback 1-6 June A survey was carried out by PPG members BP, DR and AS asking patients what additional information they would like about certain health issues and what they generally thought about the practice. We talked to an average of 15 patients a day who made a total of 122 responses and many favourable comments about the practice.. The busiest days were

Monday and Tuesday at the surgery. DR recorded the results and diabetes, weight loss and dementia scored the highest concerns. DR suggested that we focussed on concerning health issues from the survey running in line with national campaigns. DR suggested we start with the weight loss campaign starting in January when most people are keen to start. Dr Shaffu said that patients with a BMI of between 25-30 can be referred to Weightwatchers for a number of free sessions. May is the month for walking and a campaign could be run in conjunction with walking away from diabetes It was decided that these promotions would be discussed more fully at the next meeting in November as we had the proposed closure of Springfield Road to work on at present. Proposed meeting with all PPG groups at Two Steeples Health Centre DR to arrange with Susan Price ELRCCG and Diane Broomhead of long Clawson PPG a suitable date for them to come and talk to all the PPG at Two Steeples. BP to liaise with other PPG chairs of Bushloe and Long Street once date agreed. The focus will be public and patient involvement. AOB Bushloe PPG is trying to arrange for toys to be put in the surgery for children to play with. AC suggested that we have a small TV set into the wall playing dvds which would entertain the children without running the risk of germs being spread on toys that the children have handled. JS suggested that if PPG members receive any positive feedback or comments from patients we encourage them to put it in NHS choices website. If patients have any concerns they should direct them to JS practice manager. Date of Next Meeting Monday 2 nd November 6.30pm For Your information
