International emergency response Mission: RedR Australia relieves suffering in disasters by selecting, training and providing competent and committed personnel to humanitarian relief agencies worldwide.

About RedR Australia RedR Australia is a not-for-profit humanitarian organisation which:» maintains a Standby Register of experts available for short-term deployments for emergency relief work» provides preparedness training for humanitarian workers» works to build resilience in disaster-affected communities around the world

Ahead of a crisis RedR Australia trains people interested in assisting after major disasters. Qualified and experienced personnel are prepared for challenges in the field. When disaster strikes RedR Australia is on permanent standby. UN relief agencies request people with particular skills and RedR Australia nominates Standby Register personnel for secondment.

International family RedR was first established in the UK in 1979. RedR Australia, established in 1992, is a member of RedR International, a federated network sharing a common vision of a world in which sufficient competent and committed personnel are available and responding to humanitarian needs. Standby Partner We are the only Standby Partner to the United Nations in the Southern Hemisphere. UN and other frontline relief agencies call on RedR Australia to supply personnel when they need specialist technical assistance to deal with an emergency or a disaster. Damage caused by Typhoon Haiyan - Tacloban, Philippines. RedR Australia has had 26 deployments and 3 trainers involved in this response.

Ongoing Syrian displacement since 2011. Two million people forced to flee to neighbouring countries. 59 RedR Australia specialists have deployed to the region since 2012.

Displaced populations, Myanmar 2013/14. More than 450,000 people displaced by ethnic violence across the country. 10 RedR specialists were deployed to assist.

Horn of Africa famine, 2011. Mass displacement caused by conflict and drought. RedR Australia sent 22 people to aid in the response effort.

Pakistan floods, 2010. 23 of our people assisted. Last year, Pakistan experienced its third consecutive year of major flooding.

Haiti earthquake, 2010. 13 RedR Aussies provided assistance.

Standby Register personnel Personnel on the Standby Register have been through a rigorous selection and training process.

Our training Delivering emergency assistance poses many challenges. RedR Australia runs an extensive training program in humanitarian relief:» particular focus on realistic scenario exercises» participants equipped with the skills to respond quickly in humanitarian emergencies

RedR Australia trainers Our courses are facilitated by our staff and other international practitioners. They are humanitarian aid specialists who have worked for UN agencies and a range of humanitarian organisations. RedR Australia s trainers bring with them many years of field and operational experience with a variety of international organisations in both natural disasters and complex emergencies associated with conflict.

Core training courses Essentials of Humanitarian Practice This five day intensive course provides an in-depth insight into the aid world, as well as the needs of vulnerable people in complex and challenging settings. Our course equips individuals with the knowledge and skills to respond effectively to a humanitarian crisis. Personal Security & Communications Learn how to respond to security and safety threats. This scenario based course provides participants with the tools to manage safety, operate communications equipment and develop team skills. This popular course is essential training for work in humanitarian aid.

Technical training courses Humanitarian Logistics in Emergencies This course focuses on the importance of logistics in the provision of aid to disaster survivors as well as its place in carrying out other disaster management operations. Water, Sanitation & Hygiene in Emergencies Some of the most common needs of people affected by any disaster - whether in a natural or conflict environment - is access to safe drinking water, adequate sanitation and hygiene. This course is an ideal introduction to public health engineering in emergencies.

Standby Register personnel selection Standby Register members are selected for their professional expertise, and:»at least 5 years practical experience, with at least one year in an international developing country setting»ability to cope with unfamiliar situations and fit in with a team from many countries and backgrounds»willingness to work in difficult and often dangerous environments»availability to deploy for at least 3 months

Joining the Register The RedR Australia Standby Register is now open all year round. Please visit www.redr.org.au to submit your application. Once we receive your application, the RedR Australia team will review your experience and conduct telephone interviews and reference checks for suitable candidates. If your current skills and experience are not suitable for the Standby Register, we will contact you and provide individual career advice. Please note the prerequisite for joining the RedR Australia Standby Register is a minimum of five years' professional experience in your given field, with at least 12 months being in an international development/emergency setting.
