3 Installing OnlineDiag (Online Diagnostics) and support tools This chapter describes about installation methods and supported information. NOTE: Prerequisites On web The requirements are available on the Operating Environment (OE) media. ProviderSvcsBase (PSB) product offers interface for user space processes (typically, but not limited to, WBEM Indication Providers) to retrieve error logs from HP-UX Kernel. Using these error logs, a user space process can generate event (WBEM indication or EMS [Event Monitoring Service] event), when an event of interest occurs on the system. The following are the prerequisites for installing OnlineDiag (Online Diagnostics) and Support Tools: Event Monitoring Service (EMS) version A.04.20.31 or later ProviderSvcsBase (PSB) C.01.00.xx (March 2009) or later OnlineDiag (Online Diagnostics) depot is available for download on the OE media and web. Starting from HP-UX 11i v3 September 2011 release, all the products namely ProviderSvcsBase (PSB), SysFaultMgmt (System Fault Management) (SFM), I/O Providers namely HP-UX WBEM RAIDSA Provider, HP-UX WBEM SAS Provider, HP-UX WBEM Fibre-Channel (FC) Provider, HP-UX WBEM Direct Attached Storage (DAS) Provider must be installed together to maintain compatibility among the diagnostic products. September 2011 web release onwards, all the HP-UX 11i v3 version of WBEM providers and OnlineDiag (Online Diagnostics) products, are available for download on the WBEM Management Bundle for HP-UX 11i v3 bundle page at: WBEMMgmtBundle. NOTE: HP's WBEMMgmtBundle (WBEM Management Bundle or Mega Bundle) is released only on the web. All the products from the WBEM Management bundle must be installed together. This is due to product interdependency. These products might not work if they are installed individually. 8 Installing OnlineDiag (Online Diagnostics) and support tools

5 Known problems, issues, limitations, and workaround The following are the compilation of various problems, issues, limitations, and their workarounds for HP-UX Support Tools Manager (STM) product from multiple releases. Known problems The following known issues are tabulated from multiple releases: Symptom: Reinstallation of OnlineDiag (Online Diagnostics) alone causes core-hw events not to be logged into /var/opt/resmon/log/event.log in SysFaultMgmt (System Fault Management) (SFM) mode. Problem: When OnlineDiag (Online Diagnostics) is removed, it removes the complete monitor directory. This causes the removal of the reverse wrapper which consumes SysFaultMgmt (System Fault Management) (SFM) events and log into event log files of Event Monitoring Service (EMS), such as EMSevent.log. Hence, when you install OnlineDiag (Online Diagnostics) again, the reverse wrapper for SysFaultMgmt (System Fault Management) (SFM) providers do not come up. The reverse wrapper is required to log the events from SysFaultMgmt (System Fault Management) (SFM) providers to Event Monitoring Service (EMS) event.log in SysFaultMgmt (System Fault Management) (SFM) mode. But, the events are still logged into log files of SysFaultMgmt (System Fault Management) (SFM), such as SFMevent.log and in evweb. Workaround: Replace the reverse wrapper to monitor and dict file to the correct directory using the following steps: 1. /etc/opt/resmon/lbin/toggle_switch stop 2. cp /var/opt/sfm/data/wbemwrappermonitor.dict /etc/opt/resmon/dictionary/ 3. cp /var/opt/sfm/data/wbemwrappermonitor /usr/sbin/stm/uut/bin/tools/monitor/ 4. /etc/opt/resmon/lbin/toggle_switch restart Symptom: The Error Recovery Info is displayed in Error Details of cpe_em events. Problem: The Error Recovery Info on cpe_em events like Event #100237 is getting displayed in Event Monitoring Service (EMS). Workaround: You can safely ignore Error Recovery Info information. Symptom: OnlineDiag (Online Diagnostics) does not work properly, when the length of the system name exceeds eight characters. Problem: When the length of the hostname for a system name exceeds eight characters, OnlineDiag (Online Diagnostics) cannot retrieve the hostname. So, OnlineDiag (Online Diagnostics) cannot function as expected. Workaround: Change the default values of expanded_node_host_names and uname_eoverflow kernel parameters, by completing the following steps: 1. kctune expanded_node_host_names=1 2. kctune uname_eoverflow=0 3. /sbin/init.d/diagnostic stop 4. /sbin/init.d/diagnostic start Symptom: System port scan software can cause diagmond process to exit. Problem: The system port which diagmond process uses, must be explicitly used for diagmond. If other applications try to access this port, the diagmond process exits. 10 Known problems, issues, limitations, and workaround

Workaround: The Diagnostic running on the system can be configured to allow only local connections. After this, an attempt to send an IPC message to a nonlocal port is rejected. 1. Enablement: To enable this functionality (allow only local connections), follow the steps below: a. Shut down both Support Tools Manager (STM) and Event Monitoring Service (EMS) hardware monitors. b. Create /var/stm/config/sys/local_only file. c. Restart Support Tools Manager (STM) and Event Monitoring Service (EMS) hardware monitors in that order. When enabled, Support Tools Manager (STM) will no longer accept connections from remote systems. 2. Disablement: To disable this functionality, follow the steps below: a. Shut down both Support Tools Manager (STM) and Event Monitoring Service (EMS) hardware monitors. b. Remove /var/stm/config/sys/local_only file. c. Restart Support Tools Manager (STM) and Event Monitoring Service (EMS) hardware monitors in that order. 3. Others: When both Support Tools Manager (STM) and Event Monitoring Service (EMS) hardware monitors are not shut down, and local_only file is created, IPC messages time out and fail. This will result in the following problems: Tools will not start from the UI. Monitors will not be able to send events to PSM, so the state of the devices will not be updated and set_fixed will not be able to display or update the state of devices. Symptom: disk_em monitors reports incorrect events for errors of ESCSI_LOG_ERR type. Problem: disk_em is not designed to decode ESCSI_LOG_ERR as ESCSI_LOG_ERR related to Asterope events for LUN path hardware path. The disk_em monitors are at the hardware level and not at path level. Therefore, OnlineDiag (Online Diagnostics) does not support these events. Workaround: OnlineDiag (Online Diagnostics) provides a separate decoder which decodes ESCSI_LOG_ERR events and displays in the log tool. Known problems 11
