That s what really makes me mad. Everyone says something different and the doctor might not have your best interests in mind. The people most successful in life make plans. They create goals and map out exactly how they re going to make things happen. You need to do the same. You literally need to map out in exacting detail how you will 1) withdrawal from opiates 2) recover quickly and 3) succeed long term You need to create a detailed plan leading you from addiction to recovery. Examples of what a Game Plan should consist of: Why you want to quit? How bad do you want it? How long do you think your withdrawal symptoms will last? How will you manage the process? The question is, do you have the self-control to taper? What I mean is, if you had 20 pills, could you take enough not hurt but not enough to get high? Most people can t, they don t have this kind of self-control and would use the 20 to get high and end up having to cold turkey their opioid withdrawals. The temptations simply too great. With that said, many people have tapered successfully and therefore experienced virtually no withdrawal symptoms. I know a girl who was using 120 mg of liquid Methadone everyday. She got pregnant and decided to quit. Over a period of 2 months she tapered completely off with close to zero physical discomfort from opiate withdrawal. But be aware, tapering also means the longer you ll be using which make it easy to jump right back on. If you re going to taper, do it right and be aware of the risks.
