CS/ITP Concurrent Degree (CSEN-BS/ITP-MS) The Bachelor of Science degree is from the Department of Computer Science (CS) and the Master of Science degree is from the Interdisciplinary Telecom Program (ITP). The concurrent program enables well-qualified students to be admitted to the MS program during the junior year of their BS program, and to work thereafter towards earning both the BS and MS degrees. This concurrent degree program is aimed at the specific needs of companies requiring engineers to operate at the intersection of software development, and telecommunications. Benefits: Computer Science: o Traditional computer science curriculum focuses on the computational techniques, software tools, mathematics and theory of computing. Telecommunications Degree: o The telecommunications degree focuses on using these components to build interconnected communication systems organized around technical protocols, business models, and regulatory policies. o Students can specialize in project management, entrepreneurship, telecom policy as well as more technical disciplines. Benefit to have both degrees: o Companies that are high-technology leaders such as Cisco, Charter Communications, Qualcomm, Level3, and Google need engineers with this integrated knowledge; aerospace companies such as Lockheed martin, Northrop Grumman, and Ball Aerospace; as well as leading-edge technology startups. Advantage: For students, this program allows for early planning of the MS portion of a student s education by enrolling in graduate courses as part of the BS degree, having flexibility in the order in which courses are taken, and making efficient use of a final semester with a light credit hour load. Admissions Requirements: Computer Science students Application for admission to the concurrent degree is made through ITP. Minimum overall GPA of 3.5 Two (2) letters of recommendation from CS faculty at UCB Students who meet the above requirements, a GRE score is not required May apply any time during or after the student enters his/her junior year.
CS students pursuing the BS degree may apply, and must indicate that they are applying to the concurrent degree on the online application The GRE requirement is waived if above requirements are met Transfer students Must have completed at least two (2) core CS courses at UCB Completed at least 15 credit hours of total courses at UCB Completed coursework at another institution which is approved for the transfer credit equivalent to all CS core courses not taken at UCB Application Deadline Same as ITP domestic application deadline (currently Feb 20 th ) Fellowships as part of the concurrent degree have a deadline of Dec 30 th Engineering Merit Scholarships have an application of March 1, including the Disruptive Scholars Scholarship The Bachelor s/master s Application for Admission form is required and can be found on the graduate school website http://www.colorado.edu/graduateschool/academics/#academicforms Continuation in Program: Must maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 over all undergraduate courses and a GPA of at least 3.0 in all graduate courses to remain in good standing Concurrent degree program must be completed within 6 years Students are not eligible to pursue a second major or degree program prior to completion of both the BS and MS degrees. Curriculum: With the approval of the ITP Graduate Advisor, six (6) credit hours of ITP courses at the 5000 level or above may be counted both towards the undergraduate degree requirements and the requirements for the MS degree Minimum of 30 credits for the ITP MS Degree Minimum number of credits for the Concurrent BS/MS degree is 152. Courses used to satisfy the BS degree may not be used towards a Ph.D. Students who drop out of the concurrent degree program will be able to revert to the standard CS degree requirements. o May count up to 6 credits of ITP graduate courses at the 5000 level toward electives in their CS BS degree
