Italy is a country with the richest and most varied culture and landscape. It offers a whole range of different locations in terms of natural environments or related to art and architecture, providing solutions and emotional backgrounds for all kinds of film or audiovisual products and for all sorts of promotional or business initiatives. At a central level but even in the more remote corners of the country there are public institutions that are fully engaged in supporting the film industry and especially the production companies that decide to produce their works in these areas: the kind of support they can offer ranges from providing indications and logistic support for filming or organising events in these areas. They can also provide contacts with high level professionals with expertise in all the different film and television professions, as well as providing financial backing. In particular, there are many different forms of economic support available in Italy for international productions that can cover a range of different aspects of production. These are essentially divided into two categories: - the funds issued by the central state, that are also subdivided into the two sub-categories of "direct funds", that are highly selective and granted as a returnable loan, or "tax credits", which are assigned automatically and entail tax rebates; - the funds made available by the Italian regions, that vary in terms of contribution size, type of financial product, beneficiary eligibility, selection criteria and how the funds are paid out. This publication describes all the main features of the funds that can be accessed from both the State and the Italian Regions, how they are managed and how they are paid out. Notes The Canadian side of the project must include a development fee covering 25% of the Canadian development budget guaranteed by an eligible Canadian television broadcaster. The funding instalments are paid out by BLS based on project progress reports. Once the project has been positively assessed, the final instalment of the grant can be paid out. Project closure: verification of costs and expense accounts (with particular care taken over insuring that the territorial effect has been complied with) carried out by a chartered accountant firm appointed by BLS. Contribution Ceiling: 200,000 euro (two hundred thousand,00) for full feature films, TV films and Web series; 30,000.00 euro (thirty thousand euro) for documentaries; 10,000.00 euro (ten thousand,00) for short films. Maximum share of industrial cost: The percentage of funding provided in favour of audiovisual works cannot exceed 47% of eligible costs. Type of funding Free grant Payment Method: in a single instalment, at the end of the post-production stage in two instalments which shall include: payment of an advance of 35% of the sum awarded on presentation of a surety; payment of the remaining share of the sum awarded, as balance of the sum in question, at the end of post-production. Deadlines: The payment will be made once the final expense accounts have been presented, drafted according to the agreed format. Pre-requisites Minimum number of working days on the territory: 6 working days for full feature films, TV films, TV series and Web series; 6 working days for documentaries. The applicant company, at the time of making the subsidy request must have a minimum financial coverage of the work s budget: - 60% of the budget for full feature films, TV films, TV series and Web series; - 40% of the budget for documentaries; - 20% of the budget for short films. The applicant company must have signed a contract with a distributor and/or broadcaster for full feature films, TV films, TV series and Web series. 26

Type of funding Free grant Pre-requisites The independent production companies (limited liability companies, partnerships or individual companies) with legal or operating premises in FVG may apply for funding for the development and production (with guaranteed distribution) of individual projects. At the time of presenting the application paperwork, the applicant company must hold at least 50% of the property rights on the work, either directly or through an option contract. For applications made to the Distribution sector (production funding, with a guaranteed distribution), the application may be presented - for a minority of applications - even by companies with legal headquarters in Friuli Venezia Giulia or by companies with operating but not legal headquarters in Friuli Venezia Giulia, provided a qualified participation of professional resources / facilities located in the region is guaranteed. Application for Training funds may be made by: for scholarships (up to 90% of costs) by professionals resident in the FVG region; for a free grant (up to 50% of costs) by companies with headquarters in the FVG Region. In the latter instance, the training candidate must be an employee or a collaborator under contract, who need not necessarily be resident in the region. It is easily accessed by anyone intending to present an audiovisual project (full feature film, TV drama, short, documentary). The fund is even open to cultural associations and individual companies. The remaining 50% will be paid out 30 days end of month after the completion of filming in Tuscany, after the beneficiary has complied with all inherent obligations. Deadlines: The application must be presented before the start of filming in Tuscany. The assessment will be made within 30 days of application presentation. If the assessment is positive filming in Tuscany must begin within 60 days of the date of receipt of the positive assessment and only one extension will be granted, for an overall period of 6 months, on penalty of forfeiture of the contribution. The projects awarded the Incoming Fund must be completed and delivered on a DVD to the TFC within 12 months of the allocation of the resources, on penalty of forfeiture of the contribution and return of all sums received.
