MAGNIFICENT ITALY T +39 06 67233400 F +39 06 67233290 dg-c@beniculturali.it The purpose of MAGNIFICENT ITALY is to provide international professionals with a practical and handy guide to the opportunities available in Italy for the production and promotion of film and audiovisual works. Italy is a country with the richest and most varied culture and landscape. It offers a whole range of different locations in terms of natural environments or related to art and architecture, providing solutions and emotional backgrounds for all kinds of film or audiovisual products and for all sorts of promotional or business initiatives. At a central level but even in the more remote corners of the country there are public institutions that are fully engaged in supporting the film industry and especially the production companies that decide to produce their works in these areas: the kind of support they can offer ranges from providing indications and logistic support for filming or organising events in these areas. They can also provide contacts with high level professionals with expertise in all the different film and television professions, as well as providing financial backing. In particular, there are many different forms of economic support available in Italy for international productions that can cover a range of different aspects of production. These are essentially divided into two categories: - the funds issued by the central state, that are also subdivided into the two sub-categories of "direct funds", that are highly selective and granted as a returnable loan, or "tax credits", which are assigned automatically and entail tax rebates; - the funds made available by the Italian regions, that vary in terms of contribution size, type of financial product, beneficiary eligibility, selection criteria and how the funds are paid out. This publication describes all the main features of the funds that can be accessed from both the State and the Italian Regions, how they are managed and how they are paid out. The fact sheets published in the first part of this guide can also be found on www.bussoladelcinema.com. Please visit this site for regular updates on the information included in this guide. This publication is the result of a collaboration between the main public and private 5

T +39 06 67233400 F +39 06 67233290 dg-c@beniculturali.it film and audiovisual institutions in Italy: ANICA National Association of Film, Audiovisual and multimedia industries, APT Television Producer's Association, Doc/It Italian Documentary Maker Association, Fondazione Cinema per Roma, MIA International Audiovisual Market, Creative Europe, ICE- Italian Trade Agency, General Directorate for Film of the Ministry for Culture (MIBACT), Luce Cinecittà, Italian Film Commissions. The fact sheets that are included in the second part of MAGNIFICENT ITALY provide a profile description of the institutions that promote this initiative and of all the other public entities that provide services for film production and distribution in Italy. The aim of MAGNIFICENT ITALY is to give a comprehensive overview of the opportunities Italy can offer for the film and audiovisual sector by providing the necessary information and the contacts with the most suitable intermediaries for every different kind of requirement: it is meant to be the simplest, easiest and most effective tool to help start a collaboration with Italy! 6
