CHAPTER 1 Sun Management Center Change Manager 1.0.1 Release Notes These release notes contain release information about the Sun Management Center Change Manager 1.0.1 product, henceforth referred to as Change Manager. This system management application enables system administrators to quickly and efficiently install and manage Solaris Flash archives across a large number of managed hosts that are controlled by Change Manager. Solaris Flash archives are collections of files copied from a master system. The following topics are covered in this chapter: Change Manager Frequently Asked Questions on page 7 Installing the Change Manager Server on page 8 Obtaining Troubleshooting Information on page 9 Accessing Change Manager Documentation on page 9 Change Manager Frequently Asked Questions The following table provides general support-related information for the Change Manager product. Question Answer Which version of Change Manager is supported on Sun Management Center 3.0? Change Manager 1.0 Which version of Change Manager is supported on Sun Management Center 3.5? Which versions of Solaris (SPARC Platform Edition) are supported for the Change Manager server? Which versions of Solaris (SPARC Platform Edition) are supported for the master system and managed hosts? Change Manager 1.0.1 Solaris 8 2/02 and Solaris 9 Solaris 8 2/02 and Solaris 9 7

Question Can a JumpStart server exist on the same subnet as a Change Manager server? Can managed hosts be booted over a wide area network (WAN)? Can the Change Manager server support managed hosts on one or more subnets? Does Change Manager support the network boot of managed hosts by using the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)? Answer Yes, but the JumpStart server must not be configured to respond to hosts managed by Change Manager. No Yes, a network interface is required to service each subnet. No Installing the Change Manager Server To install the Change Manager software, follow the instructions in Installing, Configuring, and Accessing the Change Manager Server (Tasks) in Sun Management Center Change Manager 1.0.1 Administration Guide. Change Manager software can be installed on an existing Sun Management Center server or on a server you create, as explained in the following sections. Installing Change Manager Software on a New Server If you are creating a Change Manager server for the first time, do the following before you begin: Choose the appropriate hardware and software for the Change Manager server. See Change Manager Server in Sun Management Center Change Manager 1.0.1 Administration Guide. Install and configure the Sun Management Center 3.5 and Change Manager 1.0.1 software on the Change Manager server. See Installing and Configuring the Change Manager Server in Sun Management Center Change Manager 1.0.1 Administration Guide. Installing Change Manager Software on an Existing Sun Management Center Server If you are already running Sun Management Center 3.5 on the system you plan to use as the Change Manager server, do the following before you begin: Verify that your server meets the hardware and software requirements for a Change Manager server. See Hardware and Software Requirements (Reference) in Sun Management Center Change Manager 1.0.1 Administration Guide. 8 Sun Management Center Change Manager 1.0.1 Release Notes May 2003

Install and configure the Change Manager 1.0.1 software on the Change Manager server. See Installing and Configuring the Change Manager Server in Sun Management Center Change Manager 1.0.1 Administration Guide. Obtaining Troubleshooting Information For information about bugs, installation problems, and other troubleshooting issues not covered in these release notes, see Troubleshooting (Reference) in Sun Management Center Change Manager 1.0.1 Administration Guide. Accessing Change Manager Documentation Change Manager documentation is available at http://docs.sun.com. CHAPTER 2 Change Manager Runtime Issues This chapter describes runtime issues that are known to be problems. Caution Regarding Live Upgrade Change Manager uses the Solaris Live Upgrade software to perform software update operations on managed hosts. See the live_upgrade(5) man page. Do not manually run Solaris Live Upgrade commands on managed hosts outside the context of Change Manager. Doing so might result in Change Manager obtaining an inconsistent view of the state of the managed host. The commands that you should not use are the following: luactivate(1m) lucancel(1m) lucreate(1m) ludelete(1m) lumake(1m) lumount(1m) lurename(1m) luupgrade(1m) Caution Regarding Add-On Agent Modules Although the Sun Management Center agent is required by Change Manager, add-on agent modules such as those installed for Performance Reporting Manager (PRM), System Reliability Manager (SYSRM), and Advanced System Monitoring (ASM) cannot be properly configured when deployed in Solaris Flash archives. Therefore, when building a Solaris Flash archive that is to be deployed by Change Manager, do not install agent add-on modules because they will be unconfigured when the Solaris Flash archive is deployed to a managed host. Although Creating a Deployable Solaris Flash Archive (Tasks) in Sun Management Center Change Manager 1.0.1 Administration Guide suggests installing platform agent modules on the master host prior to creating the Solaris Flash archive, these modules also might be unconfigured when the 11

Solaris Flash archive is deployed to a managed host. This might limit the full use of the management capabilities provided by Sun Management Center for managed hosts deployed by Change Manager. This limitation is not expected to be present in a future version of Change Manager. 12 Sun Management Center Change Manager 1.0.1 Release Notes May 2003
