Closed High School Placement Test (HSPT ) Level: Grades 8.3 9.3 Revised each year, the Closed HSPT is accessible solely to high schools as part of a lease/score program. This program entails schools leasing the Closed HSPT materials (directions manuals, test booklets, and short form answer sheets) and receiving the Closed HSPT Standard Scoring Service at no additional cost (see page 15). A return kit is also provided to easily facilitate the return of testing materials when testing is complete. Additional services include: Performance Profiles, Student Score Reports, Individual and Group Item Analysis Reports, and standard reports for alternate groups. A long form answer sheet containing student address information may be ordered instead of the short form answer sheet at an additional cost. By using the long form answer sheet, schools can also receive lists of student addresses, address labels, and notification forms. These additional services and materials are described on pages 17 19. The Closed HSPT provides national normative measures in the following cognitive and basic skills areas: verbal and quantitative skills, reading, mathematics, and language. Optional tests in science (25 min.), mechanical aptitude (15 min.), and Catholic religion (20 min.) are available at no additional cost. Optional test scores are not included in the computation of the Battery Composite score. Cognitive skills quotients (CSQs), standard scores, national and local percentiles as well as grade equivalents are standard features of Closed HSPT reports. The Rasch Item-Response Theory one-parameter model was used to develop the standard score scale and enables reliable year-to-year comparisons to be made. Spanish HSPT - Now in Development STS has begun work on a Spanish translation of the Closed HSPT to help accommodate your Spanish-speaking students. For more detailed information about the Spanish translation of the HSPT, please call 1.800.642.6787. Pre-HSPT 7th Gra d Test e HSPT E-Score Day Sam e Res ults Level: Grade 7 Level: Grades 8.3 9.3 The Pre-HSPT is a seventh grade edition of the Closed HSPT, to help assess strengths and areas of improvement for future HSPT testing. Scored with seventh grade norms, pricing is the same as the Closed HSPT and includes the same scoring services. Optional tests are not available with the Pre-HSPT. Please note that the Pre-HSPT is for administration by high schools only. The online HSPT E-Score takes the place of the HSPT Answer Sheet so that any form of the HSPT may be used for testing. HSPT users often use the E-Score for convenient make-up testing. The cost is [Call for pricing] per student tested and STS will bill for the uses at the end of each month. Standard scoring service includes an alphabetical list report and a performance profile for each student. Please contact STS at 1.855.532.0787 for information about administering the HSPT E-Score in a group setting. An audio version of the Closed HSPT is also available on CD. This version provides an alternate method for testing as well as offers the option of stopping the test to assist students who may have special testing needs. 14

Closed HSPT / Pre-HSPT Standard Scoring Service The HSPT Interpretive Manual is included with a school s reports. It is a guide to understanding HSPT scores and drawing conclusions about student performance. Rank-Order List Reports arrange students from high to low based on their composite scores (two copies). (See below). Pressure-Sensitive Labels show each student s cognitive skills quotient (CSQ), standard scores, national and local percentiles, as well as grade equivalents for basic skills subtests reading, mathematics, and language (one per student). (See page 16). Group Summary Statistical Reports summarize overall group performance on all subtests and overall group performance on each subtest (two copies). (See below). Alphabetical List Reports organize students in alphabetical order and provide cognitive skills quotients (CSQs), standard scores, national and local percentiles, as well as their grade equivalents for the basic skills subtests reading, mathematics, and language (two copies). Closed HSPT / Pre-HSPT Standard Scoring Service National Percentile Group Summary Results Report, a feature of Closed HSPT Standard Scoring Service, allows schools to look at three different subpopulations of their testing groups and compare their performance to the national averages of up to nine different scores. A horizontal line indicates where the performance of a testing group would match the national average (one copy). (See below). **Please note: If the school chooses to use an optional local test, it is not included in the computation of the Battery Composite score. Pressure-Sensitive Label (sample) National Percentile Group Summary Results Report (sample) ELECTRONIC R e p o r t i n g Score reports are available in PDF and CSV formats that may be emailed, saving you time and money! 16

Closed HSPT / Pre-HSPT Additional Services Large Print, Braille, and audio CD tests available. These special formats may be requested in advance. All HSPT forms are available in large print and limited forms are available in Braille or on CD. Performance Profiles are individual diagnostic profiles generated for each student to report his or her scores, identify corresponding national and local norms, and give information about performance on skills within each subtest (two copies). (See below). The Performance Profile Group Summary is included at no additional cost. Student Score Report is a one-page report provided for an individual student and his/her parents or guardian. This report provides a graphic representation of the student s National Percentile Rank for each subskill taken, total basic skills, and composite. In addition, the report provides a detailed explanation for What the Test Measures and What the Score for Each Test Means. (one copy). Individual Item Analysis Reports show item responses for each student listed alphabetically. Items are grouped by objective and responses are designated by a + sign or the letter of the incorrect response. Individual Item Analysis Reports are available only for basic skills subtests (two copies). Group Item Analysis Reports provide local and national p-values for each item grouped by objective. These reports show the group s mastery percentage for each objective. Group Item Analysis Reports are available only for basic skills subtests reading, mathematics, and language (two copies). Alternate Score Rank-Order Lists present results from high to low based on students subtest scores rather than on their composite scores (two copies). Student Address Services are notification forms for mailing scores to students homes, address lists, and/or pressure-sensitive address labels. Schools must record student information on a special fourpage answer sheet in order to receive one or more of these services. Alternate Group Reports are Alphabetical and Rank-Order List Reports for alternate groups identified on student answer sheets. They provide the same information as standard Alphabetical and Rank-Order List Reports (two copies). Alternate Group Summary Statistical Reports provide standard group summary information for alternate groups identified on student answer sheets (two copies). Student Data File is a CSV (comma delimited) file and can be imported into most spreadsheet or database software packages. The file contains the same student identification and score data as the Alphabetical List Report. **An optional local test can be used to supplement the HSPT. STS will score a school s local assessment, provided the assessment is in a multiple-choice format with a maximum of four foils. An optional local test must not exceed 40 items, and a school must provide an answer key to STS prior to testing. (Please note, optional tests are not available with the Pre-HSPT ).
