Scholarship Program for Art Education Students College of Education (COE) scholarships described in this document are available to Art Education and/or Art Therapy students admitted to the college whose cumulative grade point average (GPA) is at least 3.2. These awards are presented to eligible and qualified students per the provisions established by the scholarship donors for the individual scholarships. The recipients are selected by the College of Education Scholarship Committee in conjunction with Art Education faculty. The application can be found at the end of the list of available scholarships. Applications cannot be submitted online; they must be printed out and hard copies submitted to the Dean s Office at the address below. If you do not have access to a computer, the computers in the Education Technology Center in the Education Building are available to you during regular lab hours. Unless otherwise indicated in the scholarship description, recipients will have one academic year three consecutive semesters--to use up a scholarship award. Unused scholarship funds after the end of an academic year will be forfeited. Applicants will be notified in writing (via U.S. Mail) approximately one month before the semester begins whether or not they have been awarded a scholarship. Scholarships are awarded three times a year. Applications will be accepted only during the periods listed below: For scholarships for the Fall semester: July 1-31 For scholarships for the Winter semester: November 1-30 For scholarships for the Spring/Summer semester: April 1-30 Whether or not you are awarded a scholarship, you may apply again in subsequent semesters, but you must submit a new application each time. All applications must be submitted to: Art Education Scholarships, Office of the Dean, 441 Education Building, 5425 Gullen Mall, Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, 48202. Applications must be POSTMARKED WITHIN THE RANGE OF DATES LISTED ABOVE. Applications cannot be submitted via fax. Review the instructions and your application carefully to be sure that you have included all required materials. Incomplete or late applications will not be processed, and the college will NOT inform you if your application is incomplete. 1
IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING TRANSCRIPTS: It is the applicant s responsibility to obtain and provide copies of all necessary transcripts. A Pipeline version of your WSU transcript is acceptable. We will also accept a student copy of your WSU transcript or a legible photocopy, or a legible photocopy of an official WSU transcript. If you need to obtain transcripts from another institution, we will accept unofficial, i.e. student transcripts or legible photocopies of student transcripts, or photocopies of official transcripts, but in any case the transcripts must be enclosed with your application. Do not have transcripts sent directly to the College of Education from another institution--your application will be considered incomplete and disqualified for consideration even if the transcript is subsequently received. The College of Education does not award or administer Graduate Professional Scholarships. Scholarships for Art Education Students Art Education Alumni Scholarship Scholarship Amount $1,000 Limited to full or part-time undergraduate students who have successfully completed at least one semester of study in the Art Education program in the College of Education. Applicant must show evidence of financial need and scholastic achievement. Mary Kirk Haggarty Memorial Endowed Scholarship in Art Therapy Scholarship Amount $500 # of Awards Available One per academic year Available to full or part-time graduate or undergraduate students majoring in Art Therapy who demonstrate financial need. Murray A. Douglas Memorial Scholarship Scholarship Amount $1,000 Available to full or part-time Art Education majors, undergraduate and graduate, who have earned at least twelve hours in Art Education methods and material courses. Criteria include excellence in Art Education studies and outstanding potential as an art teacher. Freda A. Harrington Endowed Memorial Scholarship Scholarship Amount $1,000 Available to full or part-time Art Education majors, undergraduate and graduate. Students must have earned at least twelve hours in Art Education methods and material courses. Mildred J. Lyman Endowed Memorial Scholarship Scholarship Amount $1,000 Award Restrictions Tuition, books, and other educational expenses 3
Available to full- or part-time graduate or undergraduate students enrolled in the Art Education program. Recipients need not demonstrate financial need. Clarice O. Percox Endowed Memorial Student Assistantship Award Amount See below Limited to graduate students or seniors in the Art Education/Art Therapy programs who have technology/computer skills to assist Art Education faculty with projects and activities related to the Art Education Department. A monthly salary of $1,000 (before taxes) will be paid for these activities. Student must be able to commit 18 hours a week, Monday through Thursday (during office hours), for a full 10-month academic year. Candidate will be chosen by the Art Education faculty. Aida Cannarsa Snow Endowed Memorial Scholarship Scholarship Amount Varies minimum of $2,000 # of Awards Available Multiple Award Restrictions Tuition, books, and other educational expenses Available to full or part-time undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in Art Education, majoring in or otherwise demonstrating a strong interest in the Department of Art, Art Education, the History of Art, Theatre, or Dance. Dean s Scholarship in Art Therapy Scholarship Amount $1000 Available to graduate or undergraduate full or part-time students enrolled in the Art Therapy program. Earl A. Weiley Endowed Memorial Scholarship Scholarship Amount $500 Available to full or part-time Art Education majors, undergraduate or graduate, who have earned at least twelve hours in Art Education methods and material courses. The qualified recipient must show evidence of excellence in Art Education studies. Jane Betsey Welling Endowed Memorial Scholarship Scholarship Amount $1,000 Limited to full-time undergraduate students who have successfully completed at least one 4
semester of study in the Art Education program. The qualified student must show evidence of an outstanding record in Art Education courses, excellent potential as an art teacher, and evidence of financial need. Fern E. Zwickey Endowed Memorial Scholarship Scholarship Amount $1,000 Limited to full or part-time Art Education majors, undergraduate and graduate. Students must have earned at least twelve hours in Art Education methods and material courses. Criteria include excellence in Art Education studies and financial need. 5

Many institutions require a minimum of 7-14 days to mail transcripts; please plan accordingly. Do not have transcripts sent to our office directly from the institution; if your transcripts are not enclosed with your application materials your application will not be considered even if the transcripts arrive subsequently. Do not submit your application until all the required components are included, including transcripts. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. No exceptions will be granted, and faxes are not accepted. If your scholarship application does not reach us by the deadline, it will not automatically be carried over to the next review period; you must re-apply the following semester and meet the deadline for that semester. REMINDER: You will not be notified if your application is incomplete. It is your responsibility to ensure that your application is filled out correctly and completely, and that all required documents are included.
