INTRODUCTION ImageWare Systems has successfully tested EPI Suite 6.3.030 against Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 (both 32- and operating systems), Windows 8 ( operating system only), and Windows 8.1 ( operating system only). Testing on Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 32-bit operating systems has not yetbeen completed. Due to the different natures of the operating systems, specific EPI Suite set-ups are required. Below is a chart outlining the different files that will be required, depending on the individual PC configuration. The standard EPI Suite Installer works on operating systems up to and including Windows XP. The installer for Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 8.1 has been released directly to IWS Channel Partners. End users are to contact their vendor to obtain the updated installer. NOTE: Further information on each requirement is available in the File Instructions section below. Please note that EPI Suite is a 32-bit application that runs in the Program Files x86 folder on operating systems. FILE INSTRUCTIONS Software For Windows XP, the current 6.3.030 install disc, including the Marx CBSetup V 1.0.3.710 for hardware keys, continues to be successful. IWS recommends updating to the latest Marx Driver, found at www.marx.com. For the Vista, 7, 8, and 8.1 EPI Suite installation, the Marx Hardware Key driver installation which should be used is the CBUSetup driver and must be manually performed. When installing on Vista, 7, 8, or 8.1: Install EPI Suite Install the Marx driver - CBUSetup.exe Follow the additional instructions in this document below. Download Files Here are some required Microsoft Windows downloads that may be required in order for EPI Suite to run successfully across all platforms. WinHlp32.exe http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917607 This download is required to read all EPI Suite Help (.HLP) files on Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 8.1 operating systems. WinHlp32.exe requires validation before downloading. Once installed, users can view EPI Suite Help files. See the Usage Notes section for further information. Microsoft Access Run-Time EPI Suite 6 Installation Instructions http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=d9ae78d9-9dc6-4b38-9fa6-2c745a175aed&displaylang=en (2007) Microsoft Access Run-Time is required for full functionality of the Guard Tool Reports module of EPI Suite. Please see the Usage Notes section for further information. MS Access Run-Time is freely distributed under restrictions noted. MS XML 4.0 SP 2 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=3144b72b-b4f2-46da-b4b6- c5d7485f2b42&displaylang=en Customers report that this download is not included on all system installations. This file resolves an 'Invalid Pointer' error message seen in EPI Designer when opening an existing card layout or saving a new layout after installation. OPERATOR REQUIREMENTS Below are a series of requirements for the successful installation of EPI Suite across all platforms. Use the local Windows Administrator account For a successful installation of this product and all plug-ins, installers are required to log into the local machine with the Windows Administrator account. This account is often disabled by default on new versions of Windows. Please enable this account before installing the software or activating any license. Please note that the Administrator account is distinct from users assigned to the Administrators group in Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 8.1. Register COMDLG32.ocx The file version that has been successfully tested with EPI Suite is V 6.0.84.18. This is found as standard with XP, but customers have reported receiving different versions on Vista, 7, 8 and 8.1, or that the file does not exist. The file is used to provide a standard group of dialog boxes for controlling files. The file may also have unresolved dependencies on Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 8.1. Copy the file over from another PC or download the file before registering the file. Steps to Register COMDLG32.ocx 1. Open the Run command through the Accessories folder 2. Note: Verify the file location before taking this step. 3. A confirmation message box should appear. All users in Power Users Group EPI Suite users require full access to all files used by EPI Suite. The simplest method is to grant Power User permissions to the Windows accounts for EPI Suite users. An alternative would be to give access to the Imageware Systems folder, which is found in the Program Files folder by default. Please note that on systems, EPI Suite will install to the Program Files (x86) folder. USAGE NOTES Below are a series of usage notes which should be followed in order to run EPI Suite successfully. Windows Help Macro Message Windows Vista 32- and Windows 7 32- and Windows 8 Windows 8.1 NOTE: Opening Help with default Macro values can produce an error of 'There was a problem running the macro. Guard Tool Reports Windows Vista Windows 7 32 and Windows 8 Windows 8.1 Previous installations of the Microsoft Access Run-Time may be required to produce images in Guard Tool Report print jobs. Please contact your support provider if this occurs. Installation Path All systems Note that EPI Suite will install to the Program Files (x86) folder by default as opposed to the Program Files folder. EPI Suite Installation All systems IWS recommends that administrators select the 'Database containing sample records' option during the installation process.
