Attachment A The following table provides information on student teaching requirements across several states. There are several models for these requirements; minimum number of weeks, number of required credits, and outcomes based approval processes that leave the credits and weeks to the discretion of the institution/field. In some states, the required number of weeks has become a standard in the state historically and institutions agree to follow the same model. None of the states where we operate (other than Colorado) have a set number of hours for field placement/student teaching. Additionally, Colorado and Missouri are the only states we work with that specify the number of hours for field experience (prior to student teaching). Most states require that a program have a field experience component but do not specific the number of hours required. The last column addresses some of the other unique student teaching components we encounter in states. State Student Teaching Requirement Comments Arizona 8 credits required Institutions have generally agreed to 12 weeks minimum; however, a few institutions require 9 weeks California 15 weeks 2 placements (7 weeks and 8 weeks) Hawaii Idaho Indiana Missouri Nevada Program must meet HI/NCATE performance standards; Institutions require a minimum of 13 weeks student teaching 12 weeks (agreed upon by the field) of 9 weeks 10 credits*; minimum 12 weeks 8 credits required Elementary candidates must complete placements in two elementary grade levels.
