Advanced Analytics for Financial Institutions Powered by Sybase IQ on HP Servers product brochure www.sybase.com

Over the past 18 months the global financial industry has gone through a huge transformation. Wall Street traders have been using advanced analytics and power trading strategies for some time, but regulators and investors have become increasingly concerned about risk management. This is driving a growing need for better analysis of contingent liabilities arising from complex financial instruments, liquidity requirements and capital levels. With the hope that the increased capital levels will help avert the next financial crisis, regulators around the globe are increasing the liquidity requirements for banks. Banks not only need to be able to meet these requirements, they need to be able to analyze and report on their liquidity at a granular level so that senior management and regulators can stay informed. However, reporting on the reserve requirements of large or even medium sized banks is a challenge and advanced analytical tools are needed to accomplish this task. In several different areas from operational risk to counter-party risk to amortizing sales, Financial Services executives are asking themselves questions like - how much cash they can have at the end of the day, how many trades are going to be successful, how can they manage their overall operations better, and so on. Answering such questions in the context of the modern enterprise in the global economy requires analyzing vast amounts of data. In addition, the global capital markets are so dynamic that such analysis has to be performed very quickly in order for the recommendations to be actionable. "Pick and two" is not an option when your business decisions rely on an analytics environment that meets all three critical success factors.

why the old approach won't cut it Balancing between large volumes of data, throughput, and accuracy has always been a challenge. When data volume, accuracy, and processing time are all critical success factors, the conventional wisdom driven by traditional analytics approaches has been pick any two (or sometimes just one.) One reason for making such sub-optimal choices is that traditional approaches to data analysis require you to move your data out of the database for analytical processing. This data movement alone can account for up to 75 percent of the cycle time and can impose severe constraints on delivery of the results that your business needs. But with its new in-database analytics capability, Sybase IQ provides an analytical platform that can achieve all three objectives simultaneously. the right choice for anticipating risks and opportunities Sybase IQ 15 delivers smarter new functionality that allows users to more easily drive risk management, credit approval, portfolio optimization, capital allocation, product pricing and relationship management by running realtime predictive analytics directly in the Sybase IQ 15 database with increased speed and accuracy while utilizing years of organizational data. This smarter approach enables financial institutions to make better predictions about future business risks, spot trends and anomalies immediately, and make operational decisions more efficiently at an affordable cost. This innovative new approach of in-database analytics removes the application barriers for businesses to perform critical drill-downs and predictive analysis in data-intensive environments that were previously impossible or impractical using traditional outside the database methods. Sybase IQ 15 is the only high performance column-based analytics server that supports hundreds of statistical and data mining functions, executed completely in-database and supporting hundreds of concurrent users at high performance levels. implementing lightning-fast, powerful, predictive analytics With the Sybase IQ 15 release, Sybase has partnered with respected analytical solutions provider Fuzzy Logix to bring its in-database analytics library known as DB Lytix to the market on the Sybase IQ 15 platform. DB Lytix offers a rich collection of analytical functions, ranging from descriptive statistics to highly sophisticated Monte Carlo simulations and Pattern Recognition. In traditional approaches for analyzing data, end-users must transport data out of the database for processing. This activity often accounts for up to 75 percent of the cycle time and imposes severe constraints on throughput and timely delivery of results. By running our algorithms directly in Sybase IQ 15, analysts can now perform predictive analytics and complex data mining tasks such as Principal Component Analysis, Linear and Logistic Regression, and Clustering entirely within the database, making it faster and easier than ever before to gain valuable insights into enterprise risks and market opportunities. Partha Sen, CEO, Fuzzy Logix

The new TPC-H benchmark result of 102,375 queries per hour (QphH) was recorded using Sybase IQ 15.1 with the HP ProLiant DL785 G6 server and running the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3 platform, achieving a price/performance of $3.63 per transaction. The benchmark represents the best result among Linux and x86 vendors in the non-clustered marketplace at this scale factor Top Ten Non-Clustered TPC-H by Performance, Version 2 Results available at: http://www.tpc.org/ tpch/results/tpch_perf_results. asp?resulttype=noncluster Sybase IQ is also widely deployed with industry leading business intelligence front end tools, including Actuate BIRT (Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools). Actuate BIRT is a commercial offering based on open source BIRT and benefits from the rich capabilities of the Eclipse platform and a very active community of users. BIRT is the premier rich information application development environment and top-level Eclipse project founded and co-led by Actuate. sybase solutions on hp servers for the most demanding data-intensive environments Banks need to minimize the cost of delivery for their real-time results, analytics and reporting services and yet at the same time ensure the availability of data resources to the clients that depend on them. The HP ProLiant eight-socket x86 servers bring together industry-standard technology, solution design and delivery that drives a more affordable price point. The server is ideal for database applications and business Intelligence with its balanced architecture of expandable I/O and large memory footprint. Reliability features (redundant power supplies and fans, automated system recovery, pre-failure warranty) make the HP ProLiant eight-socket x86 servers well-suited to support your enterprise-class database environments. Sybase, HP and Red Hat have worked together for more than a decade to drive innovation in server and open source technology. The #1 performance TPC-H 1 TB result for HP ProLiant DL785 G6 with Sybase IQ and Red Hat Enterprise Linux is proof that the ongoing collaboration helps customers migrate applications, reduce technology infrastructure costs and achieve higher performance. In addition, HP and Red Hat build powerful solutions based on robust, certified platforms, instill confidence in the joint solution with HP services, support and accountability, and deliver a costeffective solution optimized across the infrastructure, allowing companies to improve utilization, lower energy use and reduce costs. protect your data The HP StorageWorks division offers a complete portfolio of disk array systems ranging from a selection of SAN devices featuring the very latest in efficient consolidation, functionality, and technology at very affordable prices to the leading high performance, high capacity, and high availability virtual array storage solutions designed for financial institutions that simply cannot afford any downtime or tolerate any data loss. reduce it complexity with hp services HP Services professionals take a collaborative approach to helping organizations reduce IT complexity. They work with customers to design, deploy, integrate, and manage an agile IT infrastructure that responds to change and more closely aligns IT with mission goals. HP offers a full range of service and support capabilities that extend throughout the lifecycle of the HP server and operating environment.
