The FIFA/CIES Program helps us fulfill this responsibility and shape competent and knowledgeable sports leaders. Mary-Angela Willis, Ph.D. Dean of the Faculty of Humanities Target audience The program is primarily aimed at persons that operate within one or more of the following settings: National and regional football federations Other sports federations Sport clubs National Olympic Committees Governmental agencies Industries related to sport Notre Dame University Louaize NDU is a private, Lebanese non-profit Catholic institution of higher education which adopts the American system of education. As a Catholic institution inspired by the cultural and spiritual heritage of the Maronite Order of the Holy Virgin Mary, NDU seeks to provide comprehensive quality education that fosters excellence in scholarship, lifelong learning, enlightened citizenship, human solidarity, moral integrity, and belief in God. NDU offers undergraduate and graduate programs in 7 faculties: Faculty of Architecture, Art and Design, Faculty of Business Administration and Economics, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Law and Political Science, Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences and Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences. It also provides lifelong education through the Division of Continuing Education. Sport Management at the Faculty of Humanities The signing of the partnership agreement by Father Walid Moussa, President of NDU, and the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES), on May 24, 2012 is a testimony not only to NDU s commitment to academic excellence but to its mission to provide the necessary tools which will benefit our society s economic and social development. In March 2013, a diverse group of 19 individuals from all walks of life and sport / professional backgrounds came together for the first session of the FIFA/CIES Programme in sport management and in June 2014 we celebrated the graduation of the students. CIES in LEBANON It is a great honour and an immense pleasure for CIES to launch its second Program for sports administrators in Lebanon in cooperation with NDU. For more than fifteen years CIES, which benefits from the financial support of FIFA, has developed a great number of projects with the purpose of achieving a better understanding of the multiple facets of sport and of football in particular. This is why our organisation has carried out extensive research in the fields of law, economics, geography, history, and sociology. It has also created a Master s Degree in Sport Management, Law and Humanities of Sport (the FIFA Master) in which more than 380 students from more than 90 countries have already participated. CIES is also the trustee of the famous João Havelange Research Scholarship. Finally, since 2004, CIES has been developing and managing an International University Network which comprises to date 16 members in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Egypt, Palestine, Peru, Poland, Russia, Senegal, South Africa, Spain, Trinidad & Tobago, the United Arab Emirates and Venezuela. In Lebanon, NDU is the dynamic and enthusiastic partner of this project. In the age when sport has become one of the key actors of society, it is vital to continue our efforts so that it can retain its power of attraction and its dignity. Remarkable sporting achievements and their economic implications must preserve unwavering ethics. The FIFA/CIES Program in Sport Management helps to meet this objective. We are proud to be among the 16 countries that offer this program which provides individuals in the sports world with the knowledge and tools necessary to enhance sports management in Lebanon and the region. There is no question regarding the benefits and positive impact of sports on society, especially one where strife, division, and conflict are a reality. Sport competition, under professional and competent management and leadership founded on the principle of integrity, has the power to transcend social and political barriers. It intersects educational levels, religious preferences, even language barriers and it has the ability to unite people. Our presence in Lebanon demonstrates our will to offer the future sports administrators of this country - and its neighbours - practical tools in such varied fields as communication, law, finance, general management, sports events management, marketing, and sponsoring. The important thing is that these instruments are adapted to local realities in order to optimise their efficiency. It will be the role of NDU to ensure that this is the case. Bertrand Reeb CIES President Jérôme Valcke FIFA Secretary General recognition Upon successfully completing all the requirements of the program, NDU & CIES offer a certificate. Date Ricardo Rubeiz NDU, Lebanon - Class 2014 Through this program, I acquired a comprehensive, multidisciplinary view of what is related to sports from a management perspective. The program has expanded my knowledge in different fields through the different modules. It has provided the necessary expertise and has helped me develop my managerial skills even further by acquiring the necessary innovative tools and techniques which can be adapted to local and international realities ( ). I personally enjoyed the experience; it has enhanced my interaction with fellow peers, strengthened even more the bond with my instructors and broadened my network and circle of connection with professional and international people in the same scope of interest and domain. Maria Saad NDU, Lebanon - Class 2014 This program inspired me in terms of our potential and duty to change the sports world. The modules entailed precious days of intense learning for me and became a source of energy and courage for me to continue my journey in sport. The most important thing was to get reliable information and valuable experiences already accomplished by the instructors and guest speakers which enriched this program. José Acasuso Universidad Católica Argentina Class 2013 The Programme was an excellent experience for me. It allowed me to meet high profile and skilled professionals. On a personal level, it also helped me to implement many new ideas and concepts in my existing job. I would recommend the Programme to anybody who is currently working in sport management or to anybody who would like to be active in the field of sport. Sterly Seebransingh The University of the West Indies, Trinidad/Tobago Class 2012 When I decided to enrol for the Programme, I was expecting to learn about theories applicable in sports that I could use in the future, to help with the improvement and development of the sporting industry in my country. I was also expecting to meet more avid sports persons in different sporting areas through this program. Expectations met. Carlos Velasco Carballo Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Spain Class 2011 The highlight of the program? I think it has enriched me in the sense that it is clearer to me now where to direct my future professional steps. On a personal level, the human quality of my colleagues has fully satisfied me. Graham Terblanche Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, South Africa Class 2009 My expectations were exceeded in many ways. The quality of lectures and guest speakers - who were involved in real events such as the World Cup 2010 and Cricket World Cups, as well as the FIFA guest speakers - and the practical approach of the course were really good. ( ). The experiences and knowledge gained from this Programme will last forever. Selçük Güler Bahcesehir University, Turkey Class 2009 I have found my job after having attended this course. I have met people who have very good career in sport business. It was really very interesting to listen to their ideas.
