The Credentialing Program for Educational Facilities Professionals Educational Facilities Professional Certified Educational Facilities Professional Demonstrate Your Expertise and Experience Encourage career and professional development among employees Showcase the professionalism of your entire management team Display commitment to your institutional mission

Credentialing for Educational Facilities Professionals The APPA Credentialing Program allows you and your institution to demonstrate an internationally accepted, requisite level of knowledge and understanding of the educational facilities field. What APPA s Credentialing Program Accomplishes Although I have been in this career field for 10+ years while in the military and in higher education, the preparation and testing for the credentialing renewed the critical aspects of our profession and refocused me on where to place my emphasis day in and day out. My senior staff recognizes the importance of this program and has requested to enroll in the near future. This has, and will result, in a stronger Physical Plant organization. Jay Williams, EFP Post Engineer, Physical Plant Department Virginia Military Institute FOR THE FACILITIES PROFESSIONAL: Allows educational facilities professionals to demonstrate a career commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous improvement. Expands professional knowledge and industry understanding among educational facilities professionals. Acknowledges educational facilities professionals for mastering an internationally recognized and requisite knowledge level of the educational facilities field. FOR THE EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION: Demonstrates that the campus facilities organization is comprised of qualified, competent, and learned professionals. Supports succession planning and maintenance of quality facilities practices on campus. Provides an incentive for recruitment and retention. Advances the stewardship of the institution s facilities investment.

EFP or CEFP? Which Credential Applies to Me? Together, the Educational Facilities Professional (EFP) and Certified Educational Facilities Professional (CEFP) designations provide a professional credentialing continuum for the educational facilities professional. The EFP is designed for the entry level professional with up to four years management experience. The half-day online EFP credentialing examination consists of questions that are designed to validate one s professional knowledge. This contrasts with the CEFP, which is the credential for both aspiring and existing seniorlevel educational facilities professionals with five or more years of professional experience. In addition to knowledge based questions, the online CEFP examination is designed to test and validate both professional experience and the sound application of knowledge. To maintain the CEFP credential, senior level professionals must demonstrate their commitment to on-going professional development and continuing leadership by means of a recertification process every four years. The CEFP recertification process is administered by APPA. The process utilizes a point system that assigns recertification credits for participation in professional development programs, as well as APPA and non- APPA volunteer leadership and service in support of the educational facilities profession. For more details on eligibility and experience requirements, as well as the online credentialing application form, see the APPA web site at www.appa.org.

APPA Credentialing Continuum 1 to 4 Years Experience EFP For Entry Level Professionals 5 or more Years Experience CEFP For Aspiring and Current Senior-level Leaders 12+ Years Experience CEFP RECERTification Maintenance of Knowledge and Senior Level Competencies The CEFP letters behind my name represent expertise and knowledge in my profession as well as a validation of the investment made in my professional development and growth. The CEFP is a ticket for promotion and advancement and is recognized in the industry as a preferred qualification for education facilities professionals. Joseph Wojtysiak, CEFP Senior Director, Facilities Management Harrisburg Area Community College Earning the EFP or CEFP: A Three-step Process StEP 1: Complete the eligibility application. Online applications for either the EFP or CEFP credential are available on the APPA web site at www.credentialing.appa.org. Your application will be received and reviewed by APPA s offices for approval, after which you will receive confirmation from APPA. StEP 2: Utilize the credentialing exam study materials or preparatory course. Upon approval of your application, and receipt of your credentialing program fees, APPA provides each eligible candidate with copies of the appropriate examination study materials. Additionally, as an option, all EFP and CEFP participants are eligible to take the one-day CEFP/EFP Preparatory Course, taught by a course instructor qualified by APPA. The preparatory course is regularly made available at various venues, to include the APPA International Institute programs (held twice a year), as well as at meetings conducted by APPA s six regions. A listing of upcoming EFP/CEFP Preparatory Courses is listed on the APPA web site. StEP 3: Complete and successfully pass the online examination. Candidates test for either the EFP or CEFP credential by means of an online examination administered at their location of choice. APPA requires that a proctor is present while the examination is administered. The examination is released to the candidate on an established date and time approved by APPA, and is completed by the candidate via a personal computer.
