1.0 Introduction This document is the Installation and Configuration Guide for the ClassRoom21 Educator software program running on the Microsoft Windows platform. This guide is specifically for Standard versions 1.x.x starting at version 1.0.0. The intended audience for this document are IT adminstrators or educators who might be tasked with the installation of the ClassRoom21 Educator software. A basic understanding of the Windows operating system is required to understand this document. 1.1 Requirements The following are the requirements to install and run the ClassRoom21 Educator software: Operating Systems: Windows XP, WindowsVista, Windows 7, Windows 8 PC Requirements: CPU Pentium 4 800 Mhz or faster RAM: 1 Gigabyte or greater (2GigaByte recommended) HDD: 30 Megabytes of free space (for install) Network Requirements: 100Mbps or higher Notes: Windows 8 RT is NOT supported. If very large files will be sent between Educator and Learner machines, or class sizes exceed 30 students then 4 Gigabytes of memory is recommended for better performance. 1.2 Determining Port Conflicts One of the possible tasks required during the installation and setup of the ClassRoom21 Educator software is assigning ports to the various threads that run in the software. The purpose of ports is to uniquely identify different applications or processes running on a single computer and thereby enable them to share a single physical connection to a local network or the Internet. Most of the time the default values 5555/5556/5557/5558 should work fine for the 4 ports. If you wish to be proactive and determine if these ports are already being used start a Command Prompt and type netstat -an find 5555 (include the internal quotation marks). If you are returned to the command prompt with no output then the port is free. Repeat for ports 5556/5557/5558. If a port is in use you will see lines like the following: TCP 0.0.0.0:5556 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING TCP 200.200.60.22:5556 200.200.60.24:46833 ESTABLISHED This would indicate port 5556 is in use. You can see all port usage at once by typeing netstat -an without the find parameter pipe. Page 3 of 14

2.0 Installation 2.1 User Account Control Run the ClassRoom21 Educator Setup.exe file. A User Account Control popup will appear for certain versions of Windows (see Picture 2.1). If it does, click on the Yes button. Before or after this popup your anti-virus software may or may not also popup a message or screen identifying this setup program as an unknown or untrusted application. If so, click on whatever option in your anti-virus program that allows the setup to continue. You may have to configure your anti-virus software before hand to allow this setup program to proceed, or you may have to disable your antivirus program all together for a short time, run this setup program and then re-enable your anti-virus software. Picture 2.1 User Account Control 2.2 Installation Language Selection The next popup screen will allow you to specify which language will be used for all subsequent installation screens (see Picture 2.2). Select your desired installation language from the drop down menu and then click on the OK button. Picture 2.2 Select Setup Language. Page 4 of 14

2.4 Default Language Selection The next screen displayed is the default language selection screen (see Picture 2.4). This will be the language that is used for all the menus, icons, headings, commands and all other text within the application. This may be the same or a different language then the one you selected for the installation process. Click the bubble next to the language you desire and then click on the Next button to continue, the Back Button to return to the previous screen or the Cancel button to abort installation. This language can also be changed later when running the ClassRoom21 Educator software. Picture 2.4 Default Language Selection Page 6 of 14

2.5 Default Communication Parameters The next screen displayed allows setting the default communication parameters (see Picture 2.5). The login, listen, broadcast and check connect thread ports should be 4 digit numeric values. The purpose of ports is to uniquely identify different applications or processes running on a single computer and thereby enable them to share a single physical connection to a local network or the Internet. Most of the time the default values 5555/5556/5557/5558 should work fine for the 4 ports. These are the same default values for the ClassRoom21 Learner Software. The only reasons to change these values during installation is if you know that other software running on your PC is already using one of these ports. These ports can also be changed after installation when running the ClassRoom21 Educator software if conflicts are found with the ports being used by other software applications. After changes to this screen are complete click on the Next button to continue, the Back Button to return to the previous screen or the Cancel button to abort installation. These files should always be cleaned up automatically when the software exits gracefully. The directory for images files is where the ClassRoom21 Educator software will look for icons, learner photos, and emoticons and the direcory for help files is where the software will look for the electronic user manaual Accept the defaults, or modify the directory names where you wish the ClassRoom21 Educator files to be installed or created and then click on the Next button to continue, the Back Button to return to the previous screen or the Cancel button to abort installation.
