(July 24, 2008) Boise Inc. has become a member of the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX ), the world s first and North America s only voluntary, legally binding integrated greenhouse gas emissions reduction, registry and trading system. As part of its membership in CCX, Boise Inc. has made a voluntarily but legally-binding commitment to achieve an absolute greenhouse gas emission reduction of six percent below its baseline a four-year average of the years 1998 to 2001 by the end of 2010. CCX operates a cap-and-trade system. Members who beat the targets have surplus allowances to sell or bank, and those who have emissions above the targets must purchase CCX Carbon Financial Instrument contracts to achieve compliance. Third-party verification is provided by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), a leading financial regulator in the United States. We welcome Boise Inc. to CCX. Boise EcoOGR Grease Resistant Paper Boise EcoOGR is a high-strength grease resistant paper manufactured without the use of fluorochemicals while providing the same functionality and performance as traditionally fluorochemical treated paper. This OGR solution is SFI Chain-of-Custody Certified.

Our Jackson AL and International Falls MN facilities also extend Forest Stewardship Council FSC Chain of Custody certification to the products they produce. Boise undergoes regular audits to assure our systems comply with stringent standards. Climate Change For the five year period from 2002 to 2007, we have decreased our use of purchased fossil fuels in our paper mills by approximately 26%, while increasing production by nearly 3%. Energy Consumption Currently, 64% of the energy we use is from renewable biomass sources. Waste Reduction We put 47% of the residuals generated by our paper making process to beneficial use.
