Fountas & Pinnell Online Data Management System for Benchmark Assessment System Assessments Navigation Adding/Editing/Deleting Assessments Adding/Editing/Deleting Optional Assessments Welcome to the Fountas & Pinnell Literacy Online Data Management System (ODMS). This tool is designed to help you easily record assessment data for the Benchmark Assessment System or for any other assessed readings. You can record data manually or send it wirelessly from the Reading Record App. But the system s greatest value is in its data-sorting capabilities and in its graphical representations of data, which help you analyze individual progress and gain insight into larger trends in the classroom. Let s take a look at the interface. Navigation Along the left side of every ODMS screen is the main navigation area that delineates the three major sections of the system. Mouse over the area to reveal the section names: Assessments, Reports, and Manage. In these sections, as a teacher user, you can record assessments, view reports, and manage the makeup of your own classes. Page 1 of 7
In the Assessments Section are two tabs: Class and Student. Select Class (if you want to look at data for a whole class) or Student (if you want to look at or record data for a single student.). Use the dropdown menus to bring up the class or student you wish to work with. (If there are no classes or students in the dropdown menus, you will need to go to the Manage section to add them or, preferably, have your school's designated System Administrator set up your classes in the System Admin module.) Page 2 of 7
On the Class tab, under the dropdown menus are three subsections: Roster, Benchmark Assessments, and Optional Assessments. The Benchmark Assessments section shows you the assessments for all of the students in the class you have chosen. And Optional Assessments is the section showing the dates and scores for any BAS optional assessments your students have completed. (We ll explore those sections in the next segment.) The Roster is a list of your students. Clicking on any student s last name takes you to that student s data on the Student tab. Page 3 of 7
Adding/Editing/Deleting Assessments In order to add a new assessment, you must click on the Student tab, select the student from the dropdown menus and then select the Benchmark Assessments subsection. Finally click on Add Assessment. Then note whether the child read an F&P book or some other book in your library and enter the data for the reading. Page 4 of 7
You can click on any of the headers in the table in order to sort the data by that variable. If a reading record has been imported (from the Reading Record app), there will be a document symbol in the Imported Record column that you can click on to open it. You can edit or delete assessment data by clicking on the pencil icon, or create notes about the student by clicking on the Comments button. Page 5 of 7
Above the table, the most recent Independent and Instructional levels are given and you may select a Recommended placement level, which will change over time. There is also a box (Show all assessments for student) that when clicked will show you assessment data from past school years as well as the current data. Tap on the key icon to view the meanings of symbols and scores in the table. Tap on the printer icon to print the screen. The question mark icon brings up the help text for any screen. Page 6 of 7
