Inroducion The deveopmens achieved or he variahe-speed inducion moor drive sysems incorporaing soid-sae power eecronics made i possibe o be uiized in many appicaions [I]. One o hese deveopmens is he operaion a conroed-sip roor requency. This yieds suiabe drive characerisics or racion and high saring orque demand appicaions. Thereore a simuaion o such ype o drive becomes a necessiy o predic is perormance beorehand. A simuaion mode or a ixed-sip drive has been presened earier [2]. This mode can be exended o cover he conroed-sip requency ype o drives. This eer presens a mehod or simuaing he conroed-sip variabe speed convererinverer inducion moor drive sysem. The proposed simuaion akes ino consideraion he eecs o he source and ier ime consans converer swiching moor and oad dynamics as we as harmonics. This deveoped simuaion coud be adoped successuy or opimizing he drive sysem perormance. Proposed Digia Simuaion For Conroed Sip Drive ranges. I is conroed auomaicay by receiving a signa rom he achomeer on he moor sha which indicaes he moor mechanica requency [3]. The ampiude o he oupu voage can be varied (in he case o using AC/DC converer) by he operaor command. Thereore he moor simuaion derived rom he previous anaysis [21 may be arranged as oows. The moor impedance a a sip Z= in he roor has he oowing orm: M) +J21r ( I) 143 2. Simuaion Mode Basics A conroed-sip drive sysem can be schemaicay represened by he bock diagram shown in Fig. 1. The DC power source in connecion wih he inverer provides a conroabe requency hree-phase suppy o he inducion moor. The suppy requency is varied o mach he moor requiremens or he operaion speed o ( converer Inverer J Phase InducIOn moor LOAd Equaion (I) indicaes ha or a given moor is impedance is a uncion o boh sip and synchronous requencies. I can aso be observed ha he orque and curren equaions are simiar o hose corresponding o a DC series moor. This demonsraes ceary ha he conroed-sip requency drive has a wide range o DC series moor characerisics. Hence i can be empoyed successuy or racion purposes. The above-menioned reaionships can be uiized o simuae he drive sysems by he bock diagram shown in Fig. 2. There are hree inpus corresponding o he appied voage synchronous and sip requencies. The oupu ermina yieds he orque. This simuaion was used propery o achieve opimaiy or a seeced sysem perormance [31. One o he drawbacks o his simuaion is ha i considers an idea inverer perormance and ignores ier and source ime consans converer swiching and oad dynamics. These eecs may ead o considerabe errors in cases when he sysem sabiiy design and opimizaion become margina. Journa o Eng. Sci. Vo. 11 No. I (1985). Coege o Eng. King Saud Univ.
