According to its mission, the School educates children of Swiss and international families in the greater Geneva area, providing instruction in both French and English. Founded in 1924 shortly after the establishment of the League of Nations in Geneva, its mission is to prepare an international student body of over 130 nationalities and 90 mother tongues to enter universities in many countries around the world. The International School of Geneva was the main agent in creating the International Baccalaureate programme. The school is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and the Council of International Schools.
