Executive MBA (EMBA) Course Descriptions The Executive MBA curriculum synthesizes both academic theory and real-life scenarios to provide a relevant and crossfunctional education. This approach allows you to implement and understand business solutions across all of your organization's functional units. The Executive MBA is a general business program designed to supplement the specialized knowledge of executive students. MGT 700 Management Perspectives/Orientation Establishes the conceptual foundation of the Executive MBA program. Prepares students to function effectively in a collaborative learning environment and as members of productive work teams. Includes individual assessment of management/personality profile to gain insights into leadership and communication styles. Offered on a Credit/No Credit basis only. (1 credit hour) MGT 706 Organizational Behavior and Diversity MGMT 706 draws on behavioral science, research, and theory in order to teach students how to manage changing organizations. Through experiential learning students will examine the following topics: Individual and group behavior, Communication, Power and politics, Conflict resolution, Negotiation, Leadership, Motivation, Management of a diverse workforce, Organization design, Decisionmaking and Organizational change. (3 credit hours) MGT 712 Business Communications Business Communications covers the elements of written and oral business communication to help students implement effective strategies for workplace communication. The class addresses the following topics: Public speaking, Personal communication style, Audience analysis for tone, Basics of business writing and Evaluation of written formats and mediums. Effective communication strategies for professional settings are defined through various assignments. (3 credit hours) MGT 702 Financial Accounting Financial Accounting deals with accounting concepts and procedures that are used to prepare external financial statements. The concepts include: Balance sheets, Income statements and Cash flow statements. The class introduces the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and explains their relationship to organizational performance. (3 credit hours) MGT 704 Economics for Managers MGMT 704 is a survey of both microeconomics (the study of individual decision-making) and macroeconomics (investigates national and international concerns). Students will learn to evaluate competitive strategies by applying economic analysis to managerial decision making in areas of supply, demand, production, cost, and pricing. Economic theory is complemented by discussions about current economic issues affecting businesses. (3 credit hours) MGT 703 Managerial Accounting Managerial Accounting teaches students to use accounting information for internal financial reports. Students will learn to: Manage strategic and operational choices, Determine pricing and profitability, Control costs and Evaluate performance. Students will use spreadsheets to solve managerial accounting problems and make sound business decisions. (3 credit hours) MGT 722 Marketing Management Marketing Management introduces students to the foundations of marketing, focusing on actionable strategies for gaining a competitive advantage in a rapidly changing business environment. Students will learn to apply the following marketing concepts and strategies: Consumer behavior, Segmentation, Marketing research, Competitive positioning, Marketing information systems, Distribution, Pricing, Promotional considerations and Customer relationship management. To demonstrate mastery, students will develop an actual marketing plan for a local business. (3 credit hours) MGT 701 Statistical Analysis for Management Decisions MGMT 701 teaches a practical application of statistical data analysis and discusses its place in effective organizational decisionmaking. Topics include: Probability, Sampling, Confidence intervals, Hypothesis testing and Regression analysis. Students will learn to use quantitative analysis to aid managerial decision making. (3 credit hours)

MGT 711 Management of Technology and Innovation MGMT 711 examines the ways in which organizations can maximize their competitive advantage by using technological innovations. The class addresses the processes involved in technological innovation, focusing on models, sources, flows, and the protection of intellectual property. Students will learn how to manage in a technological environment and cope with continuing technology changes. (3 credit hours) MGT 728 Global Business Environment Global Business Environment is an overview of issues and challenges confronting managers in the global marketplace. The class covers salient issues faced by multinational firms, as well as strategic issues faced by local companies competing in the global business environment. Topics include: Theories of international trade, Exchange rate, Investment policies, Global cultural differences and Practical considerations for global business (2 credit hours) MGT 708 Ethical, Social, Political and Legal Environment This class examines business ethics and social responsibility in regards to both the individual decision maker, as well as the organization and its interactions with its stakeholders. Topics include: Roles and responsibilities of businesses, Relationships with stakeholders, Key legal concepts, Ethical decision-making processes, Political and social interests. The class will help students recognize, understand, and effectively address real-world ethical problems and dilemmas. (3 credit hours) MGT 726 Financial Management Financial Management teaches students the role of finance within a business or organization. Topics include: Ratio analysis of financial statements, Forecasting and budgeting, Cash and credit management, Capital structure, Risk analysis, Budgeting and Working capital management (3 credit hours) MGT 794 Special Topics The special topics electives are selected based on student interest and faculty specialties. Topics in the past have included: E-commerce, Management information systems, Employment law, Negotiation skills, Investments, Project management, Entrepreneurship, Power and Influence and Detecting and preventing Fraud. Special topics includes two 2-credit hour courses. MGT 751 Practicum For MGMT 751, students choose one of the following options: Participation in a ten-day international residency and a post-trip seminar, Attendance to the "Washington Campus" program and a follow-up research paper and Enrollment in an approved traditional MBA elective. The International Practicum (Option 1) is an overseas course designed to provide direct insight into the international business environment. You will visit businesses and industries daily while observing live case studies and engaging in discussions with local business leaders, government administrators, and industry experts. You are responsible for your own flight and visa arrangements. $1,500 dollars of your tuition is applied to the trip. (3 credit hours) MGT 720 Operations Management Operations Management provides a fundamental understanding of manufacturing and service operations and their role in the organization. The class surveys a wide range topics including: Process flow analysis, Supply chain management, Capacity planning, Facility location, Total quality management, Human resource management, Technology management, Manufacturing and service strategy and Theory of constraints. The class utilizes readings, case analyses, and student projects. (3 credit hours) MGT 798 Strategic Management Strategic Management is the final course in the Executive MBA Program, and it allows students to demonstrate mastery of their business education. The class helps students apply strategic management concepts through case analyses. It also draws upon the concepts learned in other classes to help students develop their management perspective and ability to impact their organization's performance. (3 credit hours) MGT 707 Executive Leadership Executive Leadership applies theories of individual behavior and organizational dynamics to solve a host of performance-based problems. The focus is on assessing leadership competencies, changing corporate culture, analysis of leading companies, skill building strategies, and direct application of material to individual work settings. (2 credit hours)

If you fill out the application online, sign and return the signature form, or you may sign your application in person at the time of interview. NON-REFUNDABLE APPLICATION FEE You may pay your application fee online or include a check or money order in the amount of $50.00, payable to the Anderson School Foundation, with your application form or signature page. You may also pay this fee over the phone by calling the EMBA office at 505-277-2525. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE Please write a concise essay explaining your reasons for seeking an advanced degree in business, include any noteworthy achievements or information you wish to share with the Admissions Committee. RESUME Please include a current resume detailing your work experience and areas of responsibility. LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION Three letters of recommendation are required, including one from your immediate supervisor. Each letter should have the EMBA Letter of Recommendation form attached. The most meaningful evaluations come from people who have been responsible for evaluating your academic or managerial performance. Form letters and return envelopes are provided for this purpose. TRANSCRIPTS Please send one official transcript from each college, university and graduate school you attended as a registered student. Each transcript must be enclosed in the Registrar s sealed envelope and included in your application package or sent directly to the Executive MBA program office. If you earned a degree from the University of New Mexico, we will request your transcript. The Admission Committee looks to see that you have at least a 3.0 GPA on your last 60 credit hours of college coursework.* GRADUATE MANAGEMENT ADMISSION TEST (GMAT) OR GRADUATE RECORD EXAMINATION (GRE) The GMAT and GRE are administered computer-adaptive tests which you can take year-round at a date and time that are convenient for you.
