DELAWARE STATE UNIVERSITY TITLE III: STRENGTHENING HISTORICALLY BLACK COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES PROGRAM FUNDED ACTIVITIES HBCU (HISTORICALLY BLACK COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES PROGRAM) FUNDED: 2007 2012 1 Comprehensive Retention Plan Supports the Delaware State University Retention Plan. The activities allow for the funding of best practices in retention programs based on current research. The components allow for an organized, systematic, coordinated, institutionalized plan to improve the quality of student life and learning experiences. 2 Strengthening the Use of Information Technology on Campus to Improve Student Retention 1 Strengthens the deployment of, training in, and the usages of both current and future technologies to improve the quality of education in all disciplines using information technologies. The activities provide infrastructure support, administrative support, technical support, and training services.

3 Center for Teaching and Learning: Professional Development and Accreditations 4 Enhancing the Distance Learning System Using Multiple Delivery Technologies 5 Sustaining the Macintosh Computer Lab (One Year) 2 Enhances the Center for Teaching and Learning. Strengthens the support of activities for accreditations and certifications, best practices in teaching and learning innovations, and relevant professional development for faculty members. Supports the activities to develop and provide a distance education program to expand web enhanced courses and purely online instruction. Activities provide training and technical assistance to faculty members and students. Enhanced a Mac Lab equipped with professional high-end equipment and access to industry standard software and hardware for students in the Visual and Performing Arts. 6 Peer Counseling Program Supports the development of a studentstaffed outreach of Counseling Services. The activities address factors that involve biological, psychological and social changes. The primary goal is to improve the student s perception regarding seeking assistance for mental health. 7 Factors Influencing Adherence to Exercise Programs in Males and Females 8 Course Curriculum and Laboratory Improvements in Movement Science Education: Instruction, Research, and Community Outreach Supports activities to increase long-term exercise adherence in healthy male and female subjects. The research includes individualized fitness programs and educational sessions regarding nutrition, stress management, time management, and other fitness/wellness topics. Enhances the undergraduate Movement Science programs. The funding enables the acquiring of the instrumentation needed for accreditation and certification; the improvement of educational experiences; the enhancement of students for graduate and professional school and careers; the development of research opportunities for faculty and students; and, the enhancement of community outreach services. 9 Assessment Supports activities designed to transform the University s assessment plans into an efficient, sustainable process resulting in improvements in programs and enhancement of learning. The activities are fostered through workshops, systematic reporting and analysis, orchestrated assessments, and analyzing/implementing commercial

10 Enhancing Teacher Education Praxis Preparation 11 Enhancing Funds and Administrative Management Through Strengthening Sponsored Programs computerized systems for managing data. Enhances and expands the Praxis I and II test preparation provided to students desiring to enter the Teacher Education Program (T.E.P.) and to graduate. Tutorial resources and instruction in identified areas are provided. Supports the enhancement and expansion of the Office of Sponsored Program s ability to serve faculty and staff in grant and contract acquisition and capacity to monitor and assure compliance with grant and contract requirements. Enhancement of the office is due to an increase in staffing positions, certification training, professional development, and acquisition of grant/contact management/monitoring software. 12 Endowment Challenge Grant Improves the fiscal stability of the University. The fund is to preserve and enhance the real (inflation-adjusted) purchasing power while providing a relative predictable, stable, and constant (real terms) stream of earnings in line with the spending needs. 13 Program Administration Supports the coordination of the Title III activities funded by the grants. Each activity in all Title III grants are executed by an appointed university official faculty, staff, or administrator to serve as the Activity Director. Each Activity Director is accountable to the Title III Program Director/Coordinator for all compliance requirements as mandated by the Federal Regulations governing Title III programs and the University. 3

HBGI (HISTORICALLY BLACK GRADUATE INSTITUTIONS PROGRAM) FUNDED: 2009 2014 1 Enhancing Graduate Ph.D. Programs 2 Instituting Support for the Office of Development Funded 2010-2014 Supports the expansion of the Graduate Ph.D. Programs across the College of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Technology (CMNST). The grant enhances recruitment, enrollment, and graduation rates of Black American students pursuing a Ph.D. degree. Selected participants are awarded tuition and support fellowships. Supports and enhances the scope of the services of the Office of Development. The funding provides the additional staff needed to establish a viable office; and the resources needed software, training, library materials- - to support the activities of the office. SAFRA (STUDENT AID AND FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY ACT PROGRAM) FUNDED: 2010 2015 1 Enhance Library Resources, Technology, and Student Access 4 Supports the increase of the Afro-American collection and library holdings, digitization of existing Ultrafiche books, digitization of existing print media, converting first floor student labs to a smart classroom, and providing online catalog access to additional library floors. The enhancements provide better support needed by students and faculty to do research, completing project/assignments, greater access to library materials, and increased student/faculty training workshops/seminars on research and information literacy.

2 Enhancement of Teacher Education Program 3 Strengthening Mathematics Instruction 4 Enhancement of Professional Development for College of Business (COB) 5 Science and Mathematics Skills Development Program (SMS-DP) 6 Campus-Wide Classroom/- Laboratory Facilities and Technology Upgrade Enhances and expands improvements in the instructional units of Physical Education, Early Childhood Education, and Education; provides educational and financial assistance to students studying for and taking PRAXIS I and II; and, provides funding for faculty professional development. Supports activities to increase the retention rate of first-year, full-time students enrolled in first-year Mathematics courses. Students attend additional contact hours per week of facilitated Supplemental Instruction (SI) Lab practice and instruction. Faculty and SI Leaders attend workshops/seminars to improve instruction. Supports the COB maintaining compliance in the Association to Advance Collegiate School of Business (AACSB) International by enabling faculty to attend professional development conferences and workshops. Funding assures that COB faculty keeps current in respective fields, provides high quality instruction, and prepares students with requisite competencies to join the workforce. Supports the program in the College of Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Technology (CMNST) that aims to increase the number of hours of science and mathematics that students are exposed to by one (1) or two (2) hours. To expose students to various methods of learning, the instructors of the SMS-DP program are professors, graduate students, and/or talented junior and senior undergraduate students. Provides funding that enhances the University s academic classrooms and laboratories by purchasing much needed workstations; lab and technology equipment; and/or renovation of the classroom /laboratory space. These upgrades and enhancements better facilitate faculty instruction and student learning. 5
