What is an assessed essay? Reviewing the literature, presenting established knowledge, and critically analysing other opinions to address a specific question or issue!!
Paragraphs/sentences - Don t break up paragraphs unnecessarily Tenses maintain one tense, usually past tense Too many bullet points/numbers it is an essay not a report! Presentation Use powerpoint slides Do not write in a personal manner Do not use slang, saying/headlines, informal/everyday words such as basically, at the end of the day. Always write in the third person do not use I, we, I think --- use this paper suggests, the research indicates Perrett (2007) describes how Expressing your opinion If you take a view, you must justify this through your analysis of the evidence you have reviewed!
Generalising - Don t generalise too much i.e. say the the interview is often flawed not the interview is always flawed Not Cadbury s do not invest in training but evidence presented by Perrett (2007) suggests that many of Cadbury s UK mangers do not invest greatly in training. Grammar and spelling - make sure you check thoroughly before submitting Avoid descriptive writing - more critical analysis required Use of case studies is good but whole essay should not be solely based upon this Do not use sub-headings excessively you essay should flow like a story, not fragmented Conclusion Not your opinion summary of the evidence you have presented
What is referencing? Harvard referencing Use Harvard referencing Proper technique Practice
Referencing is when you attribute the source of words, ideas and data you use to the author(s) whose work you have read. Referencing refers to other people s work which you directly quote from and other people s work whose words you use less directly.
Proper referencing encourages a good academic writing style. Out of respect for other people. It is vital to attribute sources throughout all assessments, so that you are not accused of plagiarism (see next section). Many different sources are available to be used nowadays (books, journal articles, videos, etc.). Authors whose work is not correctly referenced are more likely now than ever before to bring legal action if they find out that their words have been used improperly.
If you do not reference properly, you could be accused of intellectual theft Good referencing saves detailing in full the argument or information referred to. This can save on the word count. People reading your work may wish to follow up, out of interest, references you have used. You will be penalised if you do not reference properly.

Planning is usually interpreted as a process to develop a strategy to achieve desired objectives, to solve problems, and to facilitate action. The role of the planner is to identify a desirable future and to prepare a course of action to achieve this goal. He records this in a plan. In the course of this module you will learn how planning can be carried out.
Consists of three activities Planning Action Evaluation
1. Organize for action by convening the necessary participants, establishing an oversight committee for implementation activities, and preparing for implementation. 2. Develop realistic and measurable objectives related to each strategic goal and establish accountability by identifying responsible parties. 3. Develop action plans aimed at achieving the outcome objectives and addressing the selected strategies.
4. Review action plans for opportunities for coordinating and combining resources for maximum efficiency and effectiveness. 5. Implement and monitor the progress of the action plans.
6. Prepare for evaluation by engaging stakeholders and describing the activities to be evaluated 7. Focus the evaluation design by selecting evaluation questions, the process for answering these questions, the methodology and plan for carrying out the evaluation, and a strategy for reporting results. 8. Gather credible evidence that answers the evaluation questions. Justify the conclusions. 9. Ensure that the results of the evaluation are used and shared with others. Celebrate the successes of the process.
