APPLICATION NOTE # 173503 DJS How to Back up, Migrate, or Relocate Your Music File Database OVERVIEW: The Pioneer Pro DJ application, DJS, supports backing up, migrating, or relocating your music database. This is handy for anyone who... needs to move to a new computer (PC) wants the security of all music files in a backup copy fears the loss of irreplaceable music files if the PC drive fails likes to avoid re-importing all MP3s to a huge database of music files and sound bites If you are transferring the DJS database to a new computer, you will need to re-register the software with your original user name and password because the DJS license allows installation on a single PC at a time. If you do not remember your password, contact Pioneer with as much information as you can provide including your user name, email address, physical address, serial number, and activation code. Once the information is confirmed, we will complete an offline registration for you *. You will need the registration ID to transfer DJS to a different PC. * Note: The offline registration method is time-consuming and can delay re-issuing your ID number by several days. To avoid this delay, please keep your original DJS user name and password in a safe place. Because DJS refers to drives by name rather than Drive letter, the program is able to load your music even when using different PCs. For example, an external drive on a laptop could be Drive E but when connected to a desktop PC, the database is on Drive G. As long as your music source drive is connected to the system, DJS loads your music from the database, regardless of the Drive letter. Always use the latest version of the software for best results. This document does not cover the DJS program s upgrade process. Refer to the Pioneer DJS website or the Pioneer Pro DJ Forum for more information about application upgrades. Warning: Failure to follow the instructions in this document exactly can result in the loss of your DJS database or irreversible damage to your Windows operating system, and/or other programs. Pioneer, nor any Pioneer associate, shall be held responsible for damage or loss resulting from modifying your system per these instructions. Use at your own risk. TECHNICAL DETAILS: Before you do anything else UPDATE! Be sure you have the latest version of DJS on both your current PC and the new PC. Moving the DJS database between PCs with different versions works but it is best to match versions, eliminating any question of losing or scrambling files. created 12 Feb 2009 Page 1 of 5 (800) 872-4159

Follow the instructions below to back up, migrate, or relocate your DJS database. Copy the Database To copy your DJS database, all applications should be closed. Follow the steps below to back up your database to another device such as a flash drive, DVD disc, or hard drive. 1) Open a file browser then navigate your way to the appropriate folder. In XP - C:\Documents and Settings\(your user name)\application Data\Pioneer In Vista - C:\Users\(your user name)\application Data\Pioneer Note: If you are unable to see the Documents and Settings folder, it is hidden. To reveal this folder, go to Tools then Folder Options. Click on the View tab. Scroll to "Show hidden files and folders" then click the radio button beside it. Click OK to activate. 2) Locate the folder named DJS10. This folder contains another folder and four files. The folder (named "sub") has multiple files containing information about each of your library tracks. 3) Copy the DJS10 folder to an external device (flash drive, DVD disc, hard drive, etc). It may be fairly large so first check for sufficient space on the device. For example, a sample database containing 244 songs is 157MB in size. 4) Confirm that the DJS10 folder copied correctly to your external device. Note: The steps above are the complete procedure to create a database copy for offline storage. Migrate the Database to Another PC DJS must be installed on both PCs before the database can be transferred. From the new PC, launch the DJS application, register the program then close it. Follow the steps below to move your DJS database from the current PC to a new or different PC. created 12 Feb 2009 Page 2 of 5 (800) 872-4159

1) Rename the destination database (on the new PC) to DJS-Empty. On the destination PC, go to the appropriate location: In XP - C:\Documents and Settings\(your user name)\application Data\Pioneer 2) Copy the new database from the external device (flash, DVD disc, etc) into the DJS folder. This action creates a second folder so DJS has two databases, DJS10 and DJS-Empty. Note: If your music was stored on the old PC s internal hard drive, copy the database to the SAME hard drive location on the new PC. 3) Open DJS on the new PC to confirm that your library transferred properly and intact. Relocate Your Database to Another Drive Phase 1 of 3 To begin the relocation, all applications including DJS should be closed. Follow the steps below to begin moving your database to another drive. 1) Open Windows File Explorer (under My Computer). 2) Go to your Drive C (C:) then navigate to the following folder: In XP - C:\Documents and Settings\( your user name)\application Data\Pioneer Note: If you are unable to see the Documents and Settings folder, it is hidden. To reveal this folder, go to Tools then Folder Options. Click on the View tab. Scroll to "Show hidden files and folders" then click the radio button beside it. Click OK to activate. 3) Highlight the folder labeled DJS10. 4) Select Edit to work with DJS10. created 12 Feb 2009 Page 3 of 5 (800) 872-4159

5) Choose Copy to create a duplicate of the folder. 6) Go to the desired destination drive for your database. 7) Create a new folder for the database (such as x:\pioneerdatabase). 8) Open this new folder. 9) Go to Edit then Paste to copy the folder with all contents to the new location. The time required to copy the folder depends on the number of tracks in your database. 10) Confirm that the database copied correctly to the new location. x:\pioneerdatabase\djs10 Relocate Your Database to Another Drive Phase 2 of 3 1) Click on the Start button for Windows (lower left corner). 2) Select Run to open the command window. 3) Type regedit to open the Registry Editor then click the OK button. 4) In the panel on the left, make the following selections: Click the + symbol next to each marked option. HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software Pioneer DJS 1.0 created 12 Feb 2009 Page 4 of 5 (800) 872-4159

5) In the panel on the right, double-click the DataFolder entry. 6) Change the Value data entry to reflect your new database location (x:\pioneerdatabase\djs10) 7) Close the Registry Editor (regedit) window. 8) Run DJS to confirm that the database is found and working properly. If the change failed, do NOT proceed. Contact Pioneer Service immediately. The toll-free number is listed at the bottom of this page. Relocate Your Database to Another Drive Phase 3 of 3 1) Return to the Pioneer folder. In XP - C:\Documents and Settings\( your user name)\application Data\Pioneer 2) Delete the Pioneer folder. Hold down SHIFT while deleting (either with the delete key or using the right-click menu) to remove the folder without sending the contents to the recycle bin. 3) Begin using your DJS database from the new location. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Additional application and player information is available under the Pro DJ Support area of the Pioneer website: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pusa/support/prodj.
