Collin College Division of Health Sciences and Emergency Services Certificate in Central Sterile Processing Central Sterile Processing Admission Packet Overview Thank you for your interest in the Certificate Program in Central Sterile Processing at Collin College. This packet provides information regarding admission procedures and required courses. This admission packet has been designed to answer questions about the program and provide the Program Application Form. The Deadline for submitting an application for admission to the Fall Semester class is 5:00 PM, on the Last Friday of June. Applications may be mailed or hand delivered to the Surgical Technology Office at B30 on the Central Park Campus in McKinney, Texas. The Application Form can be mailed to: Central Sterile Processing Program Director, 2200 W. University Drive, PO Box 8001, McKinney, Texas 75070-8001. The Certificate in Central Sterile Processing is a one year program that begins in the Fall Semester. Classes are scheduled online. Enrollment is limited and competitive. Admission to Collin College does not guarantee admission to the Central Sterile Processing Program. Upon successful completion of the program the student is awarded a Certificate in Central Sterile Processing. Certification Graduates of this program are eligible to sit for the national certification examination administered by the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM). Those students passing the exam are allowed to use the title Certified Registered Central Service Technician.

However, specific program requirements and program admission requirements and acceptance criteria are subject to change at any time and without notice. It is the applicants responsibility to keep informed of current program requirements. The size of classes is limited by the available clinical resources for learning and the availability of qualified central sterile processing faculty. Specific admission requirements include: 1. Submission of a completed college admission application. Students should be aware that admission to the college does not guarantee admission to the Central Sterile Processing Program. Applications for the Central Sterile Processing Program will not be considered for students who have not completed a college admission application. 2. Submission of GED Certificate or high school transcript noting graduation. 3. Completed and signed Central Sterile Processing Program Application Form by the deadline specified: 5:00 PM, on the Last Friday of June.. Completion of the PSB for Health Occupations Examination prior to the deadline for application.

5. Submit a handwritten, well-developed, one to two page essay discussing why central sterile processing has been selected as a career choice and why attendance at the Collin College program is desired. Submit this essay with your application form. 6. Request two letters of reference from employers or teachers (not friends or family) that can attest to your character and aptitude in a healthcare career. University Dr. McKinney, TX 75070-8001 Once admitted to the program: 1. Be in good health and provide physical examination and eye examination records. 2. Attend a student orientation meeting prior to the program s first semester. 3. Participate in assessment of Core Performance Standards as defined by College policy and be reviewed by the ACCESS department if accommodations are necessary. (To review Core Performance Standards, see the Surgical Technology Web Site at www.colllin.edu/surgtech.). Pass a drug screen at the student s expense when requested by the program. Positive drug screens can result in students not being admitted to the program. 5. Agree to a criminal background check. Findings from the background check that do not meet clinical affiliation specifications will result in the student not being admitted to the program. 6. Provide proof of personal health insurance prior to clinical rotations. 7. Purchase liability insurance prior to clinical rotations. 8. Purchase school approved uniforms, if required, for clinical experiences. 9. Complete and provide written proof of the Hepatitis-A and Hepatitis-B immunizaiton series. 10. Complete and provide written proof of a negative TB skin test or clear chest x-ray post conversion dated prior to the beginning of clinical rotations. 11. Complete all immunizations recommended by the Department of State Health Services (http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/) OR (http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/immunize/default.shtm) Influenza Vaccine - once a year Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis primary series or booster within the last 10 years MMR one or two doses if born before 1957 Varicella 2 doses or documented age-appropriate vaccination or physician report of evidence of disease (chicken pox) Hepatitis A two doses at 0 and 6-12 months Hepatitis B three dose series at 0, 1 and 6 months Combined Hepatitis A and B three doses at 0, 1 and 6 months NOTE: Students interested in admission to the program for [semester] should see their physician and begin immunizations months prior to the beginning of the semester.

Information about the PSB Exam Register early! The exam has lilmited space and fills on the first-come, first serve basis. Student may take the PSB for the Central Sterile Processing Program once in a 12 month period. PSB results are good for one year. If you have previously taken the Health Occupations Aptitude Examination or if you have taken the PSB for nursing, be sure to notify the program director by phone so a copy of your scores can be filed with your Central Sterile Processing admisison file and evaluated for points. How to schedule an exam: Visit the Central Sterile Processing Office, Central Park Campus, McKinney, Room B30. (Hours: M-F 8am-5pm) Sorry, no registrations by telephone. Please provide a stamped, self-addressed envelope at the time of registration if you wish to receive a copy of your scores. You may also pick up a copy from the Central Sterile Processing Office, room B30. Fees: $20 non-refundable fee. Cash, check, credit card or money order only. All payable in the cashier s office. Test Dates: PSB examination dates remaining during the current admisison cycle are posted on the surgical technology website www.collin.edu/surgtech/psbtestdates.html Location of the exam: Collin College Central Park Campus in McKinney at the Testing Center, room A109. On test day: Please allow three hours to complete the exam. If you miss the exam: You will need to re-register and re-submit the $20 registration fee.
