Q & A on current offerings
Frequently asked questions around the current Power i offerings Power License Transfer Fee = LTF (ZA13-1122 / ZU13-1191 / ZW13-1160) SWMA After Licence Fee Discount Program = ALF (ZA13-1121 / ZU13-1192 / ZW13-1161) Q: If a customer is buying a new eligible Power i Server (720/740/PureFlex) and is not using the License Transfer Promotion, can he make use of the After License Fee Promotion? A: Yes, prerequsite is to buy a new server. There is no dependency on the License Transfer itself. Please see corresponding details on eligible Servers and related SWMA products at the related PLET (ZA13-1121 / ZU13-1192 / ZW13-1161). Q: The License Transfer Promotion states that a transfer must be within the same Software tier. What about if a customer wants to downgrade to one of the eligible Server Models? A: The PLET was updated to align the Promotion to the T&Cs of the License Transfer (http://www- 947.ibm.com/systems/support/planning/notices71.html). This allows customers to move to same or lower Software tier as described in the IBM i Processor and User Transfer Guide. Q: Is the LTF Promotion combinable with the Power i Anniversary Solution Edition (ZG13-0170)? A: No, the combination of this offerings is not allowed. Q: Are products sold under Special Bid Terms eligible for the LTF or ALF Promotion as well? A: No, LTF and ALF promotion are only usable if one of the target machines is sold under Value Seller terms.
Frequently asked questions around the current Power i offerings Q: Is it still mandatory to buy the first license of PureFlex or is it now possible to transfer as well the first core to Power Pure nodes? A: We just announced that econfig will support the first processor entitlement of IBM i to be transferred. Announcement date was 28/05 and GA date will be 25/06. In the meantime you still need to buy the first core through SBO to bid it down to transfer price. Details can be found in the attached Special Bid Instructions. Q: Can a customer combine different ISV revenues to get to the thresholds needed to be eligible for a Solution Edition? A: No, exceptions to this needed to be reviewed and approved from Randy Grimm (grimmr@us.ibm.com). Q: Why do a customer need SWMA on his old box when he wants to migrate to a new Server? A: If a customer wants to make use of the LTF Promotion he needs to be on both sides on SWMA to be eligible to move his licenses. If there is SWMA left after the migration the customer can transfer the rest of the SWMA to his new box. Q: Can ALF and LTF promotion be combined? A: Yes, this was the original intention of having these promotions. It allows customers being off SWMA to get current again to than use the License Transfer to get to an actual Power7+ server. Q: Can Move up to I offering be combined with LTF? A: No, the free license out of the Move Up initiative is not applicable.
