Frederica Academy is an independent, coeducational, non-sectarian, college preparatory day school with an enrollment of approximately 400 in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. The school was founded in 1969 and is governed by an Honor Code. Students Selective Admissions 149 Upper School Students 46 % girls, 54% boys Class of 2016: 30 students Class of 2015: 35 students Academic Programs Semester system 12 Advanced Placement courses and 10 Honors courses Exams determine 20% of the average at the end of each semester Frederica Academy does not rank its students Grading System Semester grades are reported by numbers that may be translated as follows: Numeric Grades Letter Point 90 100 A 4.0 80 89 B 3.0 70 79 C 2.0 65 69 D 1.0 64 and below F 0.0 Course grades on the transcript will be unweighted; however, the cumulative numeric and grade point averages will be weighted on the transcript. Honors courses are weighted 3 points for numeric average and 0.3 for GPA. AP courses are weighted 5 points for numeric average and 0.5 for GPA. The weighted averages are used internally only to determine academic awards. Online Courses Online courses through Fuel Education are offered for enrichment, credit recovery, and schedule conflicts. Students may enroll in an online class during the academic school year or summer. Courses taken through Fuel Education will be listed as Fuel Education courses on Frederica Academy s transcript. Dual Enrollment Juniors and seniors are permitted to enroll in one elective course each semester at the College of Coastal Georgia. Courses must be approved by the college s Move on When Ready Program and Frederica Academy s College Counseling Office. Students must meet the College of Coastal Georgia s minimum admission requirements to enroll in a course. Grades received in Dual Enrollment courses will count towards a student s cumulative high school GPA. Courses will be weighted 5 points for numeric average and 0.5 for GPA on Frederica Academy s transcript. Academic Honors The Headmaster s List and the Honor Roll are calculated on a semester basis. The Headmaster s List recognizes those students having all A s in academic courses. The Honor Roll recognizes those students having A s and B s in academic courses. To graduate With Honors, an Upper School student must take four of his/her five electives in academic courses and must have a minimum cumulative numeric average of 90. National Merit Scholarship Program Class of 2016-1 Semifinalist, 1 Commended Class of 2015-1 Commended Advanced Placement To enroll in an Advanced Placement (AP) course, students must receive departmental approval and must be in good academic standing. A student enrolled in an AP course MUST take the College Board administered AP Exam in that subject in order for the course credit to be recorded on the transcript and weighted as an AP course. For the 2014-2015 school year, 64 students took one or more AP courses, for a total of 136 AP Exams. 77% of students scored at least a 3 or higher on one or more AP Exams. 10 students received the distinction of AP Scholar, 7 AP Scholar with Honor, 5 AP Scholar with Distinction, and 1 National AP Scholar.
