support, care and reassurance when it matters most the funeral funding option Our funeral funding option allows you to charge all or part of your policy proceeds to The Co-operative Funeralcare. Charge is the name of the process that means the cash lump sum from your policy is used to pay towards your funeral costs and sent directly to the Funeral Director at the time of settling the funeral bill. Please remember that your Engage Mutual policy is not a Funeral Plan and would not necessarily meet the full cost of a funeral. why The Co-operative Funeralcare? We have chosen to team up with The Co-operative Funeralcare because they are the UK s leading Funeral Director with a long and distinguished heritage. There is a nationwide network of over 1,200 Co-operative owned Funeral Homes. They are members of both the National Association of Funeral Directors and the Funeral Planning Authority, so you can rest assured they will provide your family with support, care and reassurance when it matters most. 3
a 250 Contribution towards funeral costs If you have chosen the funeral funding option with The Co-operative Funeralcare they will make a 250 Contribution towards your funeral costs. This will go towards the cost of your funeral provided it is arranged with The Co-operative Funeralcare, another participating Co-operative or an affiliated Funeral Director. See page 6 for more details. how is your funeral paid for? It s unlikely that the sum assured from your over 50s life cover plus will be exactly the same amount as the cost of your funeral. If the combined value of the sum assured and the Contribution is more than the cost of your funeral, your funeral will be covered in full. The excess will then need to be claimed from us by your nominated beneficiary or the administrator of your estate. example 1 sum assured more than funeral cost sum assured 4,700 plus the Co-operative Funeralcare Contribution 250 minus funeral cost 3,500 balance of your Engage Mutual policy payable to your estate or nominated beneficiary 1,450 However, if the payout is less than the cost of your funeral, your loved ones will be responsible for settling the balance with The Co-operative Funeralcare Funeral Director at the time of arranging the funeral. example 2 sum assured less than funeral cost sum assured 2,500 plus the Co-operative Funeralcare Contribution 250 minus funeral cost 3,500 balance payable to The Co-operative Funeralcare Funeral Director 750 4
if you die within the first 2 years If you die within the first 2 years of taking out your policy the funeral funding option will not apply. Instead, we ll return 150% of the premiums to your estate, or in the case of accidental death, three times the sum assured up to a maximum of 48,000. However, your loved ones will still be able to use the 250 Contribution towards the cost of the funeral if it is arranged by The Co-operative Funeralcare. adding our funeral funding option is simple All you have to do is complete the enclosed application form, tick which policy you would like to add the funeral funding option to and sign section 3. You can find a list of your current Engage Mutual over 50s life cover plan(s) on the application form which is attached to your letter. If you have more than one policy please make sure that you only tick one box. When selecting a policy, please bear in mind that the average funeral cost is 4,314*. Once you have done this and signed the form just return it in the envelope provided no stamp required. When this has been processed we will send you the confirmation that we ve added the funeral funding option within 5 working days. If you have multiple plans with us please make your selection carefully if you already have a plan with another provider that has been charged in favour of The Co-operative Funeralcare, you cannot add the funeral funding option to a policy from Engage Mutual please remember that a policy is not a Funeral Plan and would not necessarily meet the full cost of your funeral the funeral funding option only applies if the funeral is provided by one of The Co-operative Funeralcare Funeral Homes, another participating Co operative or an affiliated Funeral Director the funeral funding option will take precedence over any nominations made against a policy. Once the funeral funding option has been cancelled it cannot be reinstated. You can only have one funeral funding option with The Co-operative Funeralcare at any one time if you make a serious illness claim, the benefit payable to The Co-operative Funeralcare will reduce. In the event of a terminal illness claim then the money is paid to you and the policy closed, however the 250 Contribution will still be offered by The Co-operative Funeralcare if they are providing your funeral services. 6 The Co-operative Funeralcare 250 Contribution is only valid when your Engage Mutual over 50s life cover plus has a funeral funding option with The Co-operative Funeralcare is only valid for the funeral of the Policyholder. You can only have one funeral funding option with The Co-operative Funeralcare whether this be a policy from Engage Mutual or a policy from another insurance provider. what if my loved ones want to use the policy proceeds for my funeral but not with The Co-operative Funeralcare? If your loved ones decide not to use The Co-operative Funeralcare to arrange the funeral, they can write marking the letter for the attention of Customer Services at the following address: Engage Mutual Assurance, Hornbeam Park Avenue, Harrogate, North Yorkshire HG2 8XE. Engage Mutual will inform The Co operative Funeralcare that they would like to cancel the funeral funding option. The Co-operative Funeralcare would remove the funeral funding option and the policy proceeds would be paid to your estate or nominated beneficiary. The Co operative Funeralcare Contribution would not be valid. what if I die abroad? If you die abroad and wish to have your funeral conducted in mainland Great Britain or Northern Ireland, The Co-operative Funeralcare will be able to arrange repatriation to the UK. The Funeral Director will advise your loved ones of the costs which will, if they wish, be included in your funeral amount. Provided that your funeral is arranged with The Co-operative Funeralcare the funeral funding option and The Co-operative Funeralcare Contribution will still apply. 7
