3rd Quarter, 2014, Review Northern Region Al Herndon July, 2014 Met with the PTECH CTE Staff and the MAF Tampa Chapter apprentice committee regarding getting funding for the Tampa apprentice program. PTECH was nonresponsive to our request. Met with the Morocco Shrine Temple in Jacksonville regarding our High School area masonry programs helping put in a Memorial Walk for the Shriners. Met with the NCCER Staff regarding our upcoming Audit and we reviewed our school locations. Attended the National Masonry Instructors Conference in Myrtle Beach. I was their Keynote Speaker. I was also part of Round Table Discussion on Masonry Training in the United States. Sandy and I attended the NCCER Audit in our Boca Office. We passed the Audit. Suwannee Tech and West Nassau HS started the Shrine Memorial Walk project. I conducted a two day NCCER ICTP Training in Gainesville. Met with the Tampa Apprenticeship Committee and the Hillsborough County School District CTE Staff. Their Director has agreed to fund the 1
Tampa apprenticeship program and the classes will be held in Tampa at a site determined by the Tampa Apprenticeship Committee. I met with the Lake Sumter State College and we discussed their coming under our NCCER Sponsorship for their Power Programs. Met with Pure Energy in Palm Beach and SA Robinson in Saint Augustine regarding NCCER. Results: I suggested that they seek a Sponsorship for themselves. Started planning for the State Apprentice Contest to be held in Jacksonville on September 27, at the Brick500. Pat, Sandy and I attended the FACTE (Florida Association of Career and Technical Educators) in Wesley Chapel. This year s conference was attended by over 600 educators. I attended the FICAP/MAF State Convention in Sarasota. August, 2014 Phone Conference with NCCER regarding changes in the way NCCER has to test Secondary and Post Secondary schools in Florida. Conducted a three day NCCER ICTP at the Lake Sumter State College for five of their staff. LSSC has come under our NCCER Sponsorship. Conducted an NCCER review for all Hillsborough County CTE Instructors - 22 instructors attended. Was asked to attend the new Total Management System by NCCER. This is the new system that will be used by the schools in Florida. Met with George Spears Masonry and the Tallahassee Community College staff regarding putting new apprentices in the Tallahassee Program. Held a NCCER review for the Columbia County School District. 2
Presented Sabastian HS their NCCER ATEF Sign and conducted a NCCER 105 report for the school. Attended the Florida Skills Board of Directors training conducted by Tim Lawrence, the National Executive Director of SkillsUSA in Lakeland. We also toured the Competition sites in Lakeland for the 2015 Florida Skills. (Florida Skills was held in Pensacola from 2012-2014). Have become a Board member for the Reichert House in Gainesville. This is a house that trains at risk young black males in becoming a skilled worker. This program is sponsored by the Gainesville Police Department. NCCER and FMAEF conducted TMS and Certified 16 Test Proctors for the 2014-15 school year in Lake City and Alachua. Met with Menendez HS and Florida Technical College regarding new DOE requirements for NCCER. September, 2014 Met with the Tampa Apprentice Committee at the Cemex Plant on Florida Mining Road to look at the classroom building that Cemex is going to let the apprenticeship program use. Conducted one day NCCER ICTP Training in Yulee and one in Lake City at the request of their Superintendents and CTE Directors. Attended the Test Proctor Training in Tallahassee and attended the Apprenticeship Class at TCC and visited the Gadsden County Correctional Masonry Program. Conducted a Test Proctors Training session with NCCER in Port Saint Joe. Conducted Test Proctor Training with NCCER in Inverness. Tampa Apprenticeship Committee held an apprenticeship meeting at Gator Dockside for our Mason Contractors to discuss starting the Tampa Apprenticeship Program in January of 2015. 3
Met with Jerry and Jim Painter in Gainesville regarding starting the Gainesville Apprenticeship program ASAP. Met with the NEFBA Apprenticeship Training Coordinator Penelope Grisman regarding the NEFBA becoming an NCCER sponsor. Met with Pat McLaughlin regarding his meeting with the DOE regarding the changes for NCCER Testing in Tallahassee. Attended the Nassau County CTE Advisory Board in Yulee. I also conducted a NCCER Test Proctors Training for 11 people. Jerry Painter and I attended the Menendez HS Advisory Board Meeting for the FMAEF school of Architectural and Building Sciences. We have had 70 students sign up to try out for the Masonry Showcase in February, 2015. Menendez also wants to have an all-female team compete at the Showcase. Met with the Maintenance Staff and school officials of Saint Augustine Deaf and Blind regarding our becoming their NCCER Sponsor for their Maintenance School program. They will be teaching Construction Management (which includes Masonry). Attended and provided the judges for the Spec-Mix Brick500 held in Jacksonville. Apprenticeship and Pre Apprentice Contests were canceled because not enough participants. Attended the Reichert House Board Meeting in Gainesville. Meeting with new Management of the Marion County DJJ and doing a NCCER/FMAEF Audit. The FMAEF and the MAF have been asked by Lisa Nardone the National Craftsman Training Director for ABC to have 6 of our 3 rd year apprentices compete in the ABC National Craftsman Championship at their National Convention in Fort Lauderdale in early March 2015. I have had a phone Conference with the ABC National Craftsman Committee and we meet all of their contest criteria s (ABC follows the Skills USA Contest procedures and so do we with our contests) 4
Julio and I have been asked to meet their Contest Committee in Fort Lauderdale in November 2014 to see the contest site and go over details needed for us to compete and see the contest site. ABC has been watching our Florid Skills Masonry Contests and our participation with the National Skills USA Masonry contests.
