OXATAN LIFE + Environmental and governance policy Environmentally friendly oxazolidine-tanned leather
MAIN OBJECTIVE: The main objective of this project is to prove, to promote and to broadcast in the EU an innovative tanning technology based on the use of oxazodiline as an alternative to the traditional one made with chrome for being used at the footwear and tapestry industries.
OBJETIVES 1. To promote the use of friendly leather with the environment in the footwear and tapestry industries. 2. To improve the environment impact caused by the leather, footwear and tapestry industries. 3. To reduce the environmental impact of the furs at the end of their life cycle. 4. To help the footwear and tapestry companies to meet the environmental requirements, the mandatory as well as the voluntary ones related to the content of dangerous substances for health and environment.
EXPECTED RESULTS To show the technical and financial viability of the oxazodiline used in tanning of the leather. the To get a wide broadcasting about the tanning technique made with oxazodiline among the tanneries in the UE, mainly in Italy and Spain as leading producers of leather in Europe. Introduction to the use of the tanning technique with oxazodiline in the European tanneries. To enhance the footwear and tapestry industries interest about the use of tanned leather with oxazolidine as a raw material for manufactured products.
MAIN ACTIVITIES Demonstration of the environmental advantages of the tanning process made with oxazolidine (in a semi-industrial and industrial scale). Demonstration of the technical and financial viability of the tanning technology made with oxazolidine. Preparation of training and information material: Internet web page, manuals, promotional video, training and informative DVD, sample books, posters, brochures, technical publications, etc. Broadcasting activities: courses for tannery technicians, information days, fairs, etc.
WORK PROGRAMME WP 1: Demonstration of the advantages of using oxazolidine in the tanning process WP 2: Demonstration of the technical and financial viability WP 3: Preparation of the training and communication program WP 4: Broadcasting activities on the project and its results
WP1: Demonstration of the advantages of using oxazolidine in the tanning process Technical validation of the oxazolidine tanning process, in a semi-industrial and industrial scale, compared to the traditional chrome tanning process: 1. Evaluation of the environmental impact. 2. Evaluation of the physical leather properties. 3. Evaluation of the chemical leather properties (Eco-label for the footwear).
WP 2: Demonstration of the technical and financial viability Validation of the obtained leathers by means of the footwear as well as tapestry and clothing goods. Evaluation of the tanners process: advantages, difficulties, process modifications, etc. Evaluation of the leathers in collaboration with the footwear manufacturers, tapestries and the garments: advantages, difficulties, process modifications, etc. Economic validation on the tanning process made with oxazolidine. Elaboration of a compilation of results.
WP3: Preparation of the training and informative material Preparation of the oxazolidine tanning manual. Preparation of a tanning leathers sample book. Preparation of material for being used in courses as well as in information days: presentations, archives, pen-drives, etc. Preparation of materials for the diffusion of projects: press notes, technical articles, posters, brochures, etc. A video production about a project and its results.
